About Me

I enjoy reading poetry, although I'll admit I don't always understand it and I certainly can't produce any of my own. But I admire the art of poetry.
One of my favorite things to do is take pictures. One of my favorite memories is of all the time I spent in the darkroom, watching my photos come to life. Its been many years since I had a decent camera or developed my own pictures, but I still love taking pictures just for fun. Landscapes and animals, in particular, are very enjoyable for me to photograph.
I love music and enjoy going to concerts, especially outdoor shows. My favorite band is Lovehammers (they put on amazing live shows).
A few more things about me:
- I have the best husband in the world, bar none.
- My diet consists mainly of popcorn, cereal, french fries and coca-cola.
- I hate swallowing pills, even tiny ones. And therefore I take Flinstones Complete Chewable Vitamins as my multi-vitamin. Laugh if you will.
- I love HGTV. I want Kenneth Brown to come redecorate my whole house.
- I love seeing movies in a movie theater. There's something really special about laughing or crying or screaming when you're sharing that experience with others.
- I hate being cold. I keep my house at 73, and when I'm home I'm always wearing long sleeves, yoga pants and socks. Even then, I'm still usually cold.
- I also hate being hot. I don't spend much time outside during the summer because I'm not a fan of sweating and I burn very easily.
- I have been called picky/choosy/particular/etc. on many ocassions and that's okay. I am all of those things and I don't see that as a bad thing.
- If I were to play the 3-person game that Camille has on her page, I'd be a combination of Sally from When Harry Met Sally, and Monica and Ross from Friends.
- I love going to rock concerts, even when I have to be in a smokey, dive bar in a seedy party of town. A hard, throbbing bass line always gets me moving. Marty Casey & Lovehammers is my favorite band to see live.
- I love children and I'm really good with them, but I don't really want any of my own.
- I am an open book. If you ask me something, I will answer you and I will answer you honestly. But I'm also shy, so I probably won't initiate a conversation with you. I probably come off as cold, aloof and unapproachable to some people. But I'm not. You just probably have to start the conversation because I'm usually too nervous to do it myself.
- Bruce Campbell = genius (I know, its not something about me, but hey, it needed to be said).

My Interests

Music, Travel, Tennis, Sports in general, Movies, Books, Animals, and Photography.
My kitties, Baily & Xander:

Travel is a huge part of my life. In the last few years I've visited many different parts of our beautiful country. NYC is probably my favorite city, but I didn't take pictures either of the times I visited because I was too busy absorbing the city (such a fantastic place...I want to move there!). Next time, I'm going to experience the city with my camera lens. L.A. was fun, but I didn't get to see too much of it. Chicago is a fantastic city, even in bitter cold temps. D.C. was much nicer than I expected and I can't wait to go back. Two of my favorite places to visit are Charleston, SC, a beautiful, historic coastal city, and Asheville, NC, a lovely, artsy, funky mountain city. The Biltmore Estate in Asheville is an inspiring place to visit.
Battery Park in Charleston:

The Biltmore House:

Television:

Still in mourning for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Heroes is my favorite new TV show. Hiro rules! Lost, Scrubs, My Name is Earl, The Office, Alias, Sex and the City, Project Runway, Top Chef, anything on the History Channel, TLC, or A&E.

Books:

I was an English major so that should say it all. My favorite book as a child was Island of the Blue Dolphins. I used to spend countless hours in the school library and the public library, checking out a dozen books at a time. Then I'd read every second I wasn't doing something else (and sometimes when I was doing something else, lol). I went through phases with my reading. True crime, horror, cheesy romance novels, architecture, biographies...you name it and I probably went through a phase where I read everything I could find on that subject. History fascinates me so I've been reading a lot of non-fiction lately. I also love a great celeb biography (funny ones). I highly recommend Bruce Campbell's If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor and Jamie Kennedy's Wannabe.

Heroes:

For me, a hero is a person who takes a stand against what they believe to be wrong, even when they risk standing alone or being hurt or being rididuled. People like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Martin Luther King, Jr. embody that for me.
Quotes I love:
"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." - Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965)
"The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work." - Emile Zola (1840-1902)
"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born." - Anais Nin
"But seduction isn’t making someone do what they don’t want to do. Seduction is enticing someone into doing what they secretly want to do already." - Waiter Rant
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." - Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929 - 1968)
