Drunken Swede - (dru^ngk-'n swede): 1) A way of describing the sound of a computer doing text-to-speech conversion. "Why, he sounds like a drunken Swede."; 2) 5 guys that decided that music was going to hell in a hand basket and decided to do something about it.
Drunken Swede originated during the late 90's at Kansas State University as Trendkill (AKA "that cover band that played in that one guy's garage a couple of weeks ago"), with Kevin on rhythm guitar, Blake on bass and Ryan making a valiant, but futile, attempt at singing. Shortly after graduation, Trendkill's lead guitarist and drummer moved on to bigger and better things, i.e. real jobs, so it was revamped into Downcast with Kevin moving to lead guitar, Ryan on the rhythm guitar, Blake crooning and Shaun joining on at bass. After going through a long, long, long list of drummers (Danny, Jason, Boink (I don't think we ever actually knew his real name), Shaun's lame attempt, and then Danny (again)), Drunken Swede was eventually morphed into it's current form with the addition of Dar on drums. In October 2007, Blake left the band to further his mission of corrupting as many impressionable youth as possible and Tony joined up to pick up the lead vocal duties.
Along the way, the band has developed a small, but very loyal following (mostly wives, girlfriends and friends that we have incriminating Polaroid's of) by playing in various basements, garages and, occasionally, outside on the back of a flatbed trailer. Drunken Swede made it's official Kansas City club scene debut in May 2006.
