Band Members: Robert K. Nieman II ... all words and music except where otherwise noted.
Influences: Starting from as early as i can remember...Country & Western that my folks listened to and A.M. "soft rock & pop" i.e. Seals & Croft, James Taylor,etc....the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack was the 1st thing i ever bought myself when i was 7 years old. Then rock - n - roll really started to take hold although i still very much liked pop & "hit radio" music ... AC/DC, Aldo Nova, Gary Numan, Devo, Cheap Trick, and more i’m trying to remember. I started playing the piano when i was 6, but playing instruments didn’t really grab me until i got a taste of the drum set when i was 10. Not only did i get exposed to alot more types of music because of being intrested in the drumming, but my drum teacher turned me on to traditional jazz music as a part of my lessons. Although they aren’t considered a traditional jazz outfit...Steely Dan just blew me away...Thank you, Jack Brand ! At home, it was all about AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Rush, the Police, Billy Squire, J. Geils Band... By the time i was 15, i was constantly trying to get guitarists and keyboardists to come over to jam. This led to playing drums in my 1st group, and the other members would leave their instruments at my house. My favorite pop group then was Duran Duran, and i thought that their bassist, John Taylor was the coolest. Naturally, i picked up the bass and tried to learn as many D2’s songs as possible. I remember back in like 1982-1984 liking what was to be coined as "rap"...we just called it music. Grandmaster Melle Mel and, of course, RUN-DMC ... i can remember more of the songs than i can actually remember the names of some of the groups. Once i turned 16, could drive, and bought a turntable ... it seems like i just bought a littlle bit of everything and borrowed from friends what i couldn’t buy. Around this same time ... a friend of mine gave me a tape of a local "punk rock" group - WE HATE CAKE - (check out their myspace page...you can go directly to them thru my friends list) they totally changed the way i thought about music. Not only did i like the songs on that tape, but i could tell that it was "home made" so i had to find out how they did that. The answer was a piece of equipment ... the TASCAM 4-track recorder. Once i had that...not only could i record with whoever i jammed with, but i could do everything myself as long as i could play the instrument. Even my inability to play certain instruments became less of a challenge as i became more acquainted with synthesizers, sequencers, and drum machines. (03.10.08 - to be continued...)
