About Me

“In the world of ambient music, colors are generated through sonic painting.” says Dave Preston about the infinite possibilities in ambient music. “There are no rules to follow, only the need to create an atmosphere for the first time.”
The recording of Dave Preston’s first ambient album titled Be began romantically as a journey inward, challenging the original thought Preston conceived about creating music. “It was relieving to have no anatomy. The freedom to swell textures and place sounds anywhere within harmonious space gave me the liberation needed to design the moods I did.”
Each track on Be genuinely rides the emotional path intended for that particular moment. The titles of the songs are congruent with the music leaving the listener satisfied either listening to one song, or experiencing the album in it’s entirety. Nevertheless, the conceptual framework of Be is symbolically art as well giving a guidance into being whatever the song title is. “The song Be-Alive is about the flight of becoming alive and how satisfying it really can be.”
The idea behind Dave Preston’s Be is the motive of living in a world of no boundaries or rules. It is about taking a breath for the first time and realizing the capability each human carries within.

Sounds Like: "Dave Preston's textural guitar music ranges from melodic to brooding, dynamic to intimate, reminding me fondly at times of Lanterna. Thoughtful, never facile." - Robert Rich
"With its romantic and boundless sound journey, the quality recording does put you in a semi deep thought pattern that in some ways is better listened to alone." - Colorado Music Buzz
"Be a thoughtful, well-constructed work that effectively straddles styles without seeming forced. It's a disk I go back to often, and I eagerly await more work from Dave Preston. Be made me a fan." -Hypnagogue
"Although Preston himself calls the music ambient, it defies easy categorization. Strange haunting tones emanate from his guitar and other sources...Ambient with an edge" - Phil Derby / Electroambient Space
