American soprano Marlissa Hudson has been described as possessing “… warm, bright, spinning tones…†and “incredible vocal endurance.†Ms. Hudson made her professional debut while still a student, performing “Summertime†from Porgy and Bess with the Baltimore Symphony Pops Orchestra under the baton of Marvin Hamlisch. She also performed the title role of Treemonisha in Joplin’s Treemonisha with the Municipal Opera Company of Baltimore, and made her debut performance with the Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia as the Cricket in Carl Zytowski’s Pinocchio.Ms. Hudson’s most acclaimed role is that of Zerbinetta in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, which she performed both as a student and professionally with The Summer Opera Theatre Company. Her performances earned glowing reviews in the both the Washington Post and the Baltimore Sun, which described her as “an endearing Zerbinetta … [who] nailed the pyrotechnic aria, "Grossmachtige Prinzessin," in bright, sure tones.†Most recently, she debuted as Bess in Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess with Union Avenue Opera in St. Louis.Ms. Hudson received her formal training at Duke University and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where she studied with Phyllis Bryn-Julson. She earned awards for music at both schools, including a Peabody Career Development Grant.Marlissa Hudson is also an accomplished concert performer who recently returned to her hometown of St. Louis. Since arriving, she has appeared on Fox 2 News at 11 as a special guest and received major coverage in the St. Louis American newspaper for a solo recital. Ms. Hudson has also collaborated as a soloist with such esteemed organizations as the National Philharmonic, Choralis, Baltimore Symphony Pops Orchestra, Reston Chorale, Loudoun Symphony Orchestra, Clayton Symphony Orchestra, Heritage Signature Chorale, and Maryland Choral Society. Future performances include a concert with the Prince George’s Philharmonic, Town & Country Symphony Orchestra, University Symphony Orchestra, and a return to the Clayton Symphony Orchestra.
