About Me
D.Ross
DeAngelo Ross (aka D.Ross), was raised in Richmond, California. On the surface, his story is like most you have heard before… he spent his early years in poverty, having little to no resources; and growing up no stranger to the struggle and hardships of the hood. It was the meager beginning and the challenges of life; however, that molded Ross into the captivating man and magnetic artist we know today.
Ross began rapping years ago; he would emit socially inspired rhymes while walking with his younger sister to elementary school. By high school, he was performing and networking with various artists and addressing social issues on shows such as Home Turf with KRS-1 and Dominique (host). D. Ross was naturally attracted to rap music as it was the first form of creative expression that touched his truth. With this art form, he felt like he was a part of something powerful. Earlier rappers like NWA, Public Enemy, and Rakim had a message that spoke directly to the needs and ambitions of a community – and motivated D. Ross to use the same medium to affect people. The politically charged lyrics of these rappers brought awareness to the social issues plaguing inner city youth; issues to which Ross was familiar.
That message has left the music as today’s rappers spew lyrics without substance --advertisement for clothes, cars, jewelry, liquor, drugs and guns. Rap, which was once used as a creative tool to raise social and cultural awareness, is now being used for commercial promotion. The digression of rap music has both disheartened and infuriated Ross who aims to bring back the realism in rap and recreate a positive image of Black men through his intellectual and insightful work. His canon includes work on various underground projects with established artists including Stunnaman, Filthy Phil, Live, Ronald Porter, Society’s Creation, KG, Ip, Fli Stylez, Mac Dre, Lavitty, Mistah FAB, E-rase, Dap Daniels, Defa Hefa, Lil Laz, Grope 1, Ease Up, Five Starr General, and Fef Nitty to name a few. But his creative accomplishments have extended beyond these projects through independent works and performances that have people proclaiming D. Ross as the dose of the real for which we have all been waiting.
Still, the media remains engrossed by a false portrayal of Black men; Ross is committed to invalidating the stereotypes by telling the entire story and bringing social consciousness to the serious issues that spate the lives of Black men. With effortless articulation, D. Ross “fills in the blanks†and tells the pieces of the tales that the media neglects to reveal. He speaks through poetic verse on topics concerning family, daily hardships, society, economics, and politics; this lyricist is gifted with the ability to metaphorically simplify complex world problems so that most can relate, and all can understand. An extraordinary artist and activist in his own right, D. Ross is on the rise as this generation’s voice of reason; he is an undying force with a love for the art -- his ascension is imminent and his influence is absolute. For more information and Booking please contact:
