reassemble

About Me

.reassemble is the collaborative work of two London based artists John Say and Sheena Vallely. Since 2004 they have been creating and performing audio and visual work in the form of artist books, interactive CD Roms, audio CDs, live improvised sound pieces and installations. Two key themes in the construction of these works are the use of found objects and random strategies. Each medium is reassembled and collaged to suggest almost limitless and arbitrary possibilities. Through using layers of printed material, multi tracked audio samples and cut-up video and Super 8mm film they experiment with the relationship between representation and abstraction. This prefered way of working enables them to avoid any pre-determined outcomes and reveals in the process, a physical world in flux.THE BOOK DROP PROJECT ......random distribution of miniature books in surprising and unexpected places...we make prints from debris picked up off the streets and turn them into tiny books. We and our friends will then place and photograph them in different locations.

Catorina Stamp review in AN........ Press and Release, Phoenix Gallery, Brighton 26 April- 7 June 2008. This exhibition was a wonderful collection of work by top makers of artists books, and showcased work from collectives from Europe and South America which I had not seen before. There were too many gems to mention in a short review, but a few seemed to me outstanding. ‘Off The Wall’ by reassemble’s John Say and Sheena Vallely, showed how found debris can be used in direct print in beautiful layered colours. I have seen their small books before, but I thought their work showed to even better advantage in their two large books and in the wallpaper installation.
