About Me

The mission of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir is to employ Black gospel music to express the power of spirit and bring a message of faith, hope, love, and joy to the country and to the world; to exemplify through interfaith, multi-racial and multi-cultural membership the principles of equality, justice, peace, unity and cooperation; and to serve as a model for what is possible among all people.

Community Service:
The Choir is a frequent guest in churches throughout Northern California, and is a popular headliner at events benefiting community organizations and their clients. Community service partners have included:

Christmas With The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, recorded in 1999 at Fantasy Studios and Emeryville Recording Company We’ve Come a Mighty Long Way, recorded live at First Congregational Church of Oakland in 1995 The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir—Live! recorded at Calvin Simmons Theatre in 1989 The Choir has performed on three Grammy Award-winning albums: Linda Ronstadt’s Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind, Hammer’s Too Legit To Quit, and Tramaine Hawkins’ Tramaine—Live. The Choir has also recorded with the renowned Kronos Quartet, and in June, 2001, with Carlos Santana The Choir hascontributed tracks to compilation albums benefitting community service organizations, such as the Bread & Roses Tribute to Mimi Farina and Radio Station KAT 103’s (Nebraska) Christmas for the Children

Director Terrance Kelly

The Choir’s Director, Terrance Kelly, has extensive musical credentials in both gospel and jazz music. His operatic range and joyous emotional feel for the music make him a popular soloist as well as an accomplished director, composer and arranger. His credits include choral arrangements on albums by Linda Ronstadt and the Kronos Quartet, and gospel arrangements of popular music for TV and video soundtracks. In addition, he wrote and arranged most of the music for all of the Choir’s recordings.
