-1999 Graduated High School from Bemidji High School
-1999-2003 Attended Bemidji State UniversityI was born and raised in Bemidji Minnesota. My family owns and operates The Old Schoolhouse which is an art supply and craft store. I have been exposed to art since I was a baby. I have always played around with mediums and never thought that this would be my passion for life.
In high school I always leaned toward classes like: art, airbrushing, welding, auto mechanics and drafting. I went on to college with an interest in Exhibit design. I did my internship at Taste Catering in San Francisco for 3 months as an event planner. I had the experience of a lifetime. I was able to work events at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SF MOMA). That was where it really hit me that was what I wanted to be doing with my life. I also was able to events for Gump’s and the opening of the Macy’s flower show. Awesome!!
When I got back to Bemidji State I turned my focus to jewelry and metals, sculpture, painting and ceramics. I have completed a BA in Art and an emphasis in jewelry and small metals and ceramics. I have learned how to combine it all into mixed media pieces. I have been involved in a number of Art Exhibits at Bemidji State including my own Senior Exhibit which I called JAVA. My Statement was;
While it may seem strange to devote a show to coffee, I have to explain that it was one of the few things that have got me through that year. It is the first thing I had in the morning and the last thing I had at night. It is a comfort when I was cold, a pick ~ me ~ up. When, I was down, an excuse to gather with friends when we had no other reason. Coffee fuels my studying and jolts my creativity.
I have enclosed some pictures of those pieces in my portfolio. I still tend to get inspirations from that palette I have expanded into mixing the earth tones with the bold rich tones with copper and other metals for my mixed media pieces.
I also received Honorable Mention for one of my Jewelry pieces in Bemidji State’s Scholarship exhibit.
I have recently moved to Sunrise Florida with my husband. This is a completely different atmosphere than Minnesota but has defiantly gotten me out of my comfort zone. I have found that art had helped me with closure to many difficult situations that I have had in my life.
