Band Members: She writes and sings songs you won’t forget. That’s because they’re songs about life – the real life of a teenage girl with grown-up dreams. Like all teenagers she’s had her roller coaster moments. But 19-year-old Melissa Cavatti knows that living with emotions that rise and fall is part of spreading your wings through the winds of life. In Melissa’s eyes it’s okay to be honest about how you feel while you’re working through the complexities of life, and even stay there mentally for a moment, as long as you don’t let the true meaning of life pass you by. “Sometimes you just want to be a passenger,” says Melissa. “But just like music, life is about enjoyment and having fun. You always want to come back to living life.” “Passenger” is the playful debut single and video from Melissa Cavatti’s new album of the same name, creating quite a stir all over the Internet. The pop tune has become an anthem of sorts for young people confronting and dealing with the good and bad pressures of life. The debut release has created such a buzz on the pop music scene that Melissa is in rehearsals, just about every day, preparing for a string of performances and appearances this fall. “I’m very excited,” says Melissa. “I can’t wait to go on tour.” Melissa has been preparing for this moment for a long time. She says she has been singing since she could talk. She also plays a little guitar, but performing as a vocalist is her true love. A native of Antwerp, Belgium, she recently moved to sun-drenched California, far from her Northwestern Europe upbringing to be close to the music scene. But before she relocated to the United States she had developed an enviable reputation as an emerging artist to watch. By the time she was 12 years old she was winning school competitions. She has been writing and performing ever since. She grew up watching the American pop music scene from afar, working diligently on her craft, knowing that it would soon be her turn. “I’ve always loved American superstars like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera,” says Melissa. “They’re all grown up now, but I would love to bring the kind of energy and fun they’ve brought to the international pop scene.” Melissa Cavatti is an independent artist right now, but her management team is exploring deals and alliances to continue to get her music out there. So far, there’s been a lot of interest in the budding superstar. Some have compared Melissa to Canadian pop singer, Avril Lavigne, and singer-songwriter, Ashlee Simpson -- two very successful artists. What all of these pop idols have in common is youthful charisma, energy, and a vibe that fans relate to.“I like to keep it fun and keep it young,” says Melissa. “We don’t want it to get too serious and certainly not too boring. Music is about the emotions you feel, but at the end of the day you should always feel better.”
