As a general rule of thumb I'm a fidgeting git with no concentration span and a short temper! Other than that I'm a musician that lives to play music. I am the drummer in Exit State (see friends list) who, might I add, are making a big impact on the music scene.
I have played with many musicians from all over the world. They include The Charnock and Russell Band, Jeff Wootton (from one of Zoe Bonham's line ups), Gringo Star, Ben Egg (from The Mystical Calunga), Dave Spur (from Mother John and The Fall), and I was co founder of The FreespiritS.
My Drums:
The kit I play is a Ludwig - Classic Maple Series. The drum sizes are: 26 x 14, 14 x 10 (sometimes a 14 x 12), 16 x 16, 18 x 16 (I sometimes record with only one floor tom), and 14 x 6.5 snare. The cymbals I use are Paiste: 24" 2002 ride, 20" 2002 ride, 20" Giant Beat crash, 18" 2002 crash, and 15" 2002 sound edge hi-hats. I use a single kick pedal: Tama Iron Cobra Power Glide. Also, I have a 8" Pearl cowbell and a percussion tambourine. I play Remo skins. Pinstripe on the kick with a Remo flam slap and a Ambassador on the resonant side. Clear Emperors on my toms (sometimes Coated Emperors. They give a warmer tone, Clear heads give more attack) with Clear Ambassador on the resonant side. And, a Coated Ambassador on my snare with a Hazy Ambassador 300 on the snare side. I use Vic Frith 5A sticks.
Tuning: I have my kick and snare heads tuned really tight for response. The size of the drums create the "rock" tone I desire. I tune all my resonant skins really tight too (including my kick). This adds power, depth and volume to the drums and it reduces over-tones. In the kick I have a sheet of cloth to reduce the over-tones. Anything bigger than a pillow is too much in my opinion as it kills all the sound!! The batter heads on my toms are tuned "in the middle". Not too loose that response is lost but not so tight that I'd lose that "rock" sound.
Feel free to ask any questions. Cheers, Tex.
