You Should Be a Science Fiction Writer
%D%AYour ideas are very strange, and people often wonder what planet you're from.
%Dnd while you may have some problems being "normal," you'll have no problems writing sci-fi.

You are a Tortured Conceptual Artist. Your fellow
postmodernists call you an anachronism, but
you've never cared much about the opinions of
others. After all, most of them are far too
simple-minded to appreciate the nuances of your
work. They talk, while you are part of a lived
tradition.%D%A

%D%A You're Colombia!
%D%A You do a lot of drugs, and these have kind of distorted your view of %D%Areality, to the point that everyone looks like an enemy.  You keep trying to restore %D%Aorder over your schizophrenic world view, but you don't even know which goal is your own %Dnd which is someone else's.  You're pretty sure someone needs to be punished for all %D%Athis, but who that is changes all the time.  Things would be a lot better for you if %D%Ayou switched to coffee, or even to decaf, but all this money would be hard to give up.%D%A

Reading, writing, playing music, teaching, being a perpetual student, teaching communication and english, being part of the RCID program, sleeping, breathing, eating, feeling, smelling, signifying, touching, hearing, seeing, living, loving, swimming, running, drinking, petting my cat, being with Ariadne, talking to myself, talking to my cat, talking to Ariadne, avoiding people, talking to people, going to concerts when I have the time and money, watching movies and every now and then, good t.v.

Music:

The Strokes, White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Michelle Branch, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Pavement, Sonic Youth, Megadeth, Slayer, Savatage, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Coldplay, Otis Plum, Belle and Sebastian, Black Sabbath, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Bollywood, and what the hell else can I mention? This list is NOT inclusive.

Movies:

Cinema Paradiso, City of Angels, Underworld (both of them), Road Trip, Gattaca, David Lynch movies, Closer, The Squid and the Whale, Thumbsucker, Garden State, Cliff "Em All, High Fidelity, America's Sweethearts, The Ring (both of them, ahem), Dark Water, Silent Hill, Pedro Almodovar movies, Neil Labute movies, The Doors, Almost Famous, Richard Linklater movies, Wes Anderson films,Woody Allen films, and anything else on my Netflix queue.

Television:

Curb Your Enthusiasm, Tru Calling, The O.C., Gilmore Girls, X-Files, Cosby Show, Full House, Friends, Will & Grace, Frasier, Dharma & Greg, Roseanne. This list is more or less complete than the other ones.

Books:

Too many to mention right now, but Nick Hornby has always topped my list. Lots of Foucault (probably too much) and the rest of the pomo Frenchies. I got through the Chronicles of Narnia recently after way too long, and that was incredible. Of course the pre-Socratics, and I can't put down my Nietzsche for too long either. Sartre's "The Wall and other stories" is great too. And I can never forget Claire Lispector's "The Passion According to G.H." Plath's "The Bell Jar." Eco's "The Name of the Rose." "Tropic of Cancer" by Henry Miller--someday I'll get to the other stuff that's not as well known, but just as explicit. Finally, "Oh The Places We'll Go," by Dr. Seuus, was really inspiring. Thanks Ariadne!
