The Misanthropes

About Me

The Misanthropes is a collaborative effort between four of underground music’s living legends who converged on the Phoenix music scene at the same time through no fault of their own.
They met in a freak multi-car rear-end collision that resulted in one fatality. Only one of them had insurance, and due to circumstances that have not been released to the public, three of the band members are indebted to the one.
Since the three without insurance were unable to offer monetary compensation for the damages incurred by the one who happened to be at the front of the collision (and had coverage), he generously offered them a solution (after he found out who they were). The solution: Start a Super Group.
They met at a Tempe rehearsal studio on one of the hottest days of the year (2007). By the end of the session it was apparent that they’d stubled across the formula for lightning in a bottle.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Tom Nalley (guitar, lead vocals)
Tom is the singer and guitarist for L.A.’s Circle City Seven. Previous credits include The Irritations, Mad Brother Ward and the Screamin’ Street Trash Band, and The Despoilers. His career has spanned both the East and West Coasts as well as the Midwest. As an underground veteran of over twenty years, he is no stranger to road or stage.

James Oylin (drums, percussion)
James is the singer/keyboardist for the D.C.-based industrial trio INTERROGATION. Before breaking up and reforming on the West Coast, INTERROGATION played all up and down the eastern seaboard, ruining the hearing of industrial-sized crowds as they were one of the loudest electronic bands in the history of the genre. James is the youngest of The Misanthropes and most familiar with commercial success.

Percival "Bossy Boots" MacMillen (bass guitar)
Percy was the singer/bassist of Boston’s The Hanging Despots. Known for his driving, no-frills bass lines and "No BS" approach to music, Percy is a foot soldier in the war between himself and the rest of humanity. Even though considered a turd by millions, he’s kind of cool once you get to know him.

Bob West (rhythm guitar)
Having played in many psychedelic and blues-based rock and roll bands during the sixties, Bob doesn’t like to talk about his past. He simply wants to be known for what he’s doing now. At his request, we’ll leave it at that.
Influences: The Dead Boys, Roky Erickson, The Ramones, The MC5, Howlin' Wolf, Black Flag, Peter Gabriel, The New York Dolls, James Brown, Television, The Weirdos, Stiff Little Fingers, R.L. Burnside, The Creation, The Archies, The Talking Heads, G.G. Allin, The BeeGees
Record Label: Unsigned
