Federico

About Me

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1975, Federico came to the United States of America in 1984 with his parents and two younger brothers. Federico has always had a passion for music. At the age of four, Federico started playing hand drums, following in the footsteps of his uncle, world renowned drummer, Jorge “Negrito” Trasante. Federico did not pick up a trombone until his freshman year of high school, with the encouragement of his teacher, Mr. Darryl J. Bott, whom is one of Federico’s most influential people. His gift for the trombone was quickly noticed. Federico started taking lessons with his first teacher, Rick DuCharme. He then met Benjamin Herrington who was a visiting Artist in Residence at Roxbury high school and then became Mr. Perez’s teacher for the rest of his high school years. During his senior year of high school, Federico met his mentor and lifelong friend, Mr. John Henry Lambert (founder and musical director of the Gramercy Brass Orchestra of NY). Mr. Lambert was very instrumental in Federico’s introduction into the brass band world and to his next teacher, Gary Capetandes who taught Federico for his first two years of school at County College of Morris, in Randolph NJ. Some of Federico’s other teachers include Michael Fahie (NY Jazz Trombonist), James Markey (NY Philharmonic, Julliard faculty), and Tony Mazzocchi (Kean and Montclair State faculty).
Besides free lance, Federico is the principal trombonist for several professional groups including the Bergen Brass, the Full Count Big Band, and the Tropy Band. He is also the Principal Trombonist for the Livingston Symphony Orchestra, and proudly performs with many community groups in the NY/NJ area.
As a compose and arranger, Federico's works have been performed and premiered at the Gramercy Brass of NY summer camp concert as well as by the Bergen Brass.
Federico is the Special Accounts Manager for the Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York and also a Low Brass instructor on staff with both the Gramercy Brass Camp (featuring a 2009 concert extravaganza with Allen Vizzuti) and the Gramercy Brass: Polishing the Brass program, which brings music to inner city children which do not have these opportunities available to them. Mr. Perez resides in New Milford, New Jersey and is currently accepting serious students of all ages for Low Brass instruction. Federico is also available to schools, and businesses for private instruction, sectionals, and clinics... Logo design
