About Me
Brent Sandy, born and raised in the heart of the Midwest, Indianola, Iowa, is a creative music/lead trumpet player, composer/arranger, educator and Fulbright Scholar. He is a member of the jazz faculty at the University of Iowa. He has worked as a clinician/ adjudicator/guest artist throughout the globe and has performed/recorded with numerous notables of the creative music world, including Paul Smoker, Kenny Wheeler, Bobby Shew, Steven Bernstein, Robert Dick, Ray Vega, Christy Doran, “Soundpainter†Walter Thompson, Ray Anderson, Anthony Cox, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow and Kim Richmond. Brent performs/records with Equilateral, a project he co-leads with saxophonist Chris Merz and performs with Orquesta Alto Maiz, Grismore/Scea Group and the Cerberus Trio. He has been featured in performance on NPR’s “Jazzset†on two different occasions, as a member of the OddBar Trio plus Trombone, and as a member of Orquesta Alto Maiz. Brent is former member of the Executive Board of the Iowa City Jazz Festival, and presently sits on the Jazz Division Advisory Board of the National Trumpet Competition. He plays Powell Signature Trumpets and Hammond Design Mouthpieces exclusively.
