Influences: The history of Palmer and Klondike’s goes way back to 1935 when the first colonists settled here. The left side of what is now Klondikes was a hardware store. There was an alley where the main bar well sits today, and to the right of the alley The 49er Diner stood. In the 1980’s the walls came a tubleing down and the diner and hardware store became what is today’s Klondike Mike’s Dance Hall & Saloon.Klondike’s gets it’s name from "Klondike Mike" Mahoney a man who traveled to Skagway, Alaska in 1897. to make his fortune. He was the first of the great mushers who dog sledded supplies from Nome to Valdez and back again. Mr Mahoney eventually made his fortune and resettled back to Ottowa, Canada to create one of todays largest trucking companies. But his spirit and the spirit of all the great Klondike Rush characters still live on in Klondikes.
