Greg Smith-Boulevard Blues

About Me

Greg Smith is one of Cape Town’s busiest Blues harmonica players and percussionists. As a founder member, he's been with The Boulevard Blues Band for ten years. His percussive vamping and sultry solos pervade much of the band’s repertoire and he is quite adept at alternating with his array of percussion instruments. His phrasing is reminiscent of a brass section player, meaning that he is not exactly one's typical harmonica player. His career started as a rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist at the tender age of thirteen and besides his passion for the blues, Greg has also done harmonica & percussion session work with Rock, Gospel and Country bands and has guested on stage with numerous bands over the years. As a volunteer in the 80's, he played the cornet in a military brass band in Cape Town, where he was self taught in reading & writing music. As well as being an accomplished percussionist, his musical ability also includes guitar, which until 2004, he played with harp and full percussion, in a Cape Town, Southern Suburbs Blues/Rock band (Bad Habit Blues Band). When not playing with the Boulevard Blues Band he does regular session work in different genres, on harmonica and playing percussion. He composes and arranges music and is a seasoned writer of accurate audio tracks for other local musicians. Aside from music, Greg does a lot of work in the film industry as an extra, and has been featured in numerous foreign and local adverts. He has recently taken the leading role in one of the latest Ladbrokes Online Casino adverts. (on YouTube, keep your eyes peeled for a dodgy looking Peruvian fellow, attempting to persuade you to blow your hard earned dosh)
