<>Emerging from the hot and humid south, guitarist and songwriter Kyle Peters joined forces with established North Carolina musicians to create what is now Kill The Academy. The original line-up was Al Jacob on bass(Blank Face, Sound Of Speed, The Sinister Archetype) and Matt Danser on drums (The Scaries). During the fall of 2004, three songs were quickly written in Matt's spare room in Durham, NC with good friend and engineer Josh Minyard on board to complete the bands first demo cd. With tentative titles and no band name, the trio searched for an exciting singer to complete the band. No such front man was ever found, and Kyle left NC in the summer of 2005 to pursue the project in sunny LA taking with him 3 songs: Flint, White Woman and 1800.
Kyle began working at Guitar Center Sherman Oaks in hopes to find like-minded musicians to create an suitable rock outfit to hit the LA clubs. After finding drummer Michael Thomas (fellow GC grunt) the band's rhythm section was in order and pumping out songs left and right. The duo soon hooked up with a three pack from MI (Musicians Institute) and started playing shows under a new band name; Velveteen Drive, which derived from Kyle's publishing company Velveteen Audio Lab. This 5 piece didn't last too long, and Mike and Kyle continued on.
A new writing process has taken effect recently that has sparked new life into the band, and has given new meaning to what what Kill The Academy represents.
Two Stages of works are in motion: Volume I : An album that holds ten tracks very dear the band's heart and soul that represents everything we have worked so hard to watch surface, and is very close to seeing the light of day.
Volume II : A body of work that has already taken shape, and is breathing new life into the band. Songs that range from dark and moody, to elegantly fragile and even sometimes harsh and brutally noisy. The line is distorted and songs are more like separate environments that all make up one component.
Kill The Academy exists to challenge their own artistic agenda. Anyone with an open mind, and an agenda of their own are welcome to join along for the ride. For Guitarist [Kyle Peters] drummer [Michael Thomas] bassist [Zac Edwards] ... KILL THE ACADEMY is the blank canvas that begs for fresh paint and accepts obscure colors in abstract places. Has no blue print for design, and lacks borders that aren't allowed to be colored over. After all... art isn't supposed to have rules. Even though the band has been working hard completing the EP, and have already begun pre-production on the follow up to "The New Void", It's the rehearsing for the live show that has the band's attention to detail. " We want to make sure we can present a live show that most clubs don't deal with on a regular basis, and most people don't see on a regular basis without paying $60.00 through Ticketmaster. " A quote taken from a recent online Q&A with the band. " We have a wide range of material now that gives us a chance to sit down and put a relevant and dynamic set together, and we're really excited to premiere these new songs live."
