.THIS BRAND.I'm a 17 year old skater that has become fed up with everyone else, that doesn't know a thing about skateboarding, telling me what I want and what I need. Well, I know what I want and need. It's the same thing evey skateboarder wants and needs.....skate parks, side walks, streets, rials, walls, stairs, docks, warehouses and anything else I can grind my board across! And I want it all in one place! I want the world, the whole town as me shredding grounds! EVERY SQUARE INCH OF IT! Isn't that what all skaters want? Isn't it what all skaters deserve?Well, Now I'm going to build it. A town of our own. A 25 acre complex made for skaters, designed by skaters. No more outside ideas and plans that just do not fit our needs, over cramped or too small. This will be our complex...not corperate America's!My name is Mark Whitten and live in Lakewood Colorado. I, along with my mom, am working on raising the funds and awareness needed to build a 25 acre skate complex. Being a skater, I know that skaters want to shred anything they can get their decks on and that's what this complex is all about. It's an entire city of it's own. A down town, concert and warehouse district surrounded by 15 - 20 replicas of the worlds largest, well known and best laid skate parks. Both indoor and out. There are live store fronts that will house skate shops, CD and DVD shops, skateboarding lessons and tips & tricks classes, first aid, clothing, food and so much more. Drink stations will be set up around the complex to insure the needs of the skaters as they become hot and thirsty. And for all that aren't ready to have it all end at the end of the day or traveled to get there, there are camping ground located on the property. Tents/R.V.'s and vans welcome. But lets not for get those that have come to welcome the good ole park bench as a comfy sleep spot, we haven't forgotten them. There will be plenty of benches located inside and out side of the complex and camp grounds. And you can't have a true skate park without graffiti, can you? There will be graffiti shops set up to sell all the brightest colored spray paints there are to be had.Awesome Basketball Shot
..Does the complex have a cause or reason for being built? Yes it does! As great as it would be to be able to build a 25 acre complex for all skaters to come shred for free, that won't be the case here. There will be a small fee to enter the complex. A bit higher on days that bands a present to perform shows in the concert district. But not too much for what being offered to the skaters and the causes the funds will support. How many times have you gone down to the local skate park and seen that one kid just standing there watching all day. He has no board. and no money to buy one. Sad huh? I can't count the number of decks my mom and I have bought and given way to the one lone skater with no board. I use to be that kid a long time ago.I want to see low income scholarships go out to those lone skaters to keep em' off the side lines.I, along with many others, want to be sponsored but aren't. This complex will offer sponsorship to it's skaters as well. I plan to accept DVDs of those wishing to be sponsored and playing them on throughout the complex and allowing the skaters to vote for the skaters they believe have what it takes to represent the complex. There are so many skaters out there that have what it takes to go pro but go unnoticed and sponsored. I want to see this complex bring in everyday skaters and turn out a few pros's.How about collage scholarships? Skaters are some of the smartest people that I know. They are no less worthy of a scholarship than those that play football or basketball. I believe that skateboarding is just as much a sport as any other and it's athletes deserve all the same perks that come with other sports. well, I plan to see this complex sending our skaters, that want to attend, go on to collage on full scholarships and complex sponsorship.
The sad truth is that all skaters will not become pros's. Why not have the opportunity to further their minds and abilities through a good solid education?Free Public Skate Parks. There are far too few of them out there. Some of the monies raised through admission fee's will go toward the planning and building of free public skate parks in as many cities and towns as we can. Our sponsored skaters will have to agree to travel, from time to time, to cities and towns to offer ideas, concepts and designs for the skate parks to be built. They will attend some town meetings to support the local skaters in the endeavor to build the skate park. I will be going to every one of the meetings in every town, every time!Last, but not least, there are costs and fee's attached to having bands play in the concert district. I want to be able to offer the best bands and the best shows for our skaters. As I mentioned earlier in comments, the admission fee will be only slightly higher on days that bands are playing. Unless of course one has purchased a year long pass. Which, I might mention, covers admission fee's, camping and all shows, all year long. So, that's the plan and that's why it will be paid admission. Well, I could go on forever and ever and ever about this great project, but will end it at this for now. I will keep you up to date on petition locations, how to get a petition in your area, deck sale locations and phone ordering info., how you can make a donation and/or become involved with the project and anything else that needs to be passed along as we continue to work toward our goals.
