BOY MEETS GIRL....
"Our eyes met across a smoky stage, 'cos smoking was still allowed in those days. We were in different bands, in a different town, in a different Country and well, the urge took us.. and we formed a band. Soon afterwards we moved from England to Cork, saying goodbye to the bands we had just split up, bye bye...
May we introduce ourselves, Carl Plover & Linda Carroll and we are Chunky Planet."
Their music has been described as Alternative Folk with comparisons from Tom Waits to The Eels. They play a variety of instruments including Acoustic guitar, Bodhrán and whistles. Often joined by honouree band member, Mairead Kelly on Irish harp, they use traditional instruments for contemporary music making.
Chunky Planet launched themselves in 2004 with their debut single, 'Pensioners Watch TV'. Following glowing reviews in the Irish national press, receiving extensive radio play, chosen as HOTPress magazine's pick of the fortnight and tipped as a band that's got what it takes to make it, the twosome have already managed to catch the imagination of many in the industry as well as an ever growing fan base.
In 2005, Chunky Planet toured with Annette Buckley playing across Ireland and later chosen to perform as part of the Tennents Intro Festival in Derry. They shared the stage with some of the best Irish up and coming bands of the time including Delorentos, 8Ball & Leya. 2005 year also saw Chunky Planet get an honorary mention in Hot Press' 50 best Cork songs of all time.
Earlier in 2006, the pair were joined by special guests, Tadhg Cooke, Gavin Moore and Diane Ward with a series of afternoon performances in the south of the Country to promote their downloadable only single, 'Price You Pay'
