About Me

"Tassignon’s singing is quite versatile ... she exhibits horn-like melodic and rhythmic dexterity, while at other times her voice wanders through a labyrinthine maze of amorphous syllabic abstractions." (Wilbur MacKenzie, All About Jazz New York)
"The music on this release is clearly different from other Jazz presentations. The melody lines, the syncopation and the crystallization of sounds particularly in the tutti are so innovative that “Hufflignon” simply takes Jazz to an entirely new level." (Friedrich W. Sixel)
"Van Huffel’s playing throughout is richly nuanced, with melody and texture seamlessly integrated to create colorful and evocative statements." (Wilbur MacKenzie, All About Jazz New York)
"Van Huffel ... is the owner of a sophisticated technique and a suavely faultless tone that Tassignon is all too eager to stimulate in scores including problematic dissonant lines that the couple approaches either in unison or in intertwining keenness." (Massimo Ricci, Temporary Fault)
Belgian vocalist Sophie Tassignon and Canadian saxophonist Peter Van Huffel have collaborated for the past year performing their music together in every setting from duo to trio and quartet.
Sophie Tassignon, who resides in Brussels, is renowned for her ability to sing unsingable melodies with a truly unique style and performs with numerous groups around Europe including the Screaming Bitches, the Folk/Tassignon Quartet and her own project Zoshia with which she recorded her first album “Moon Talk” released on Alone Blue Records in 2006.
Peter Van Huffel, based part-time in New York and Europe, performs with numerous projects around the NYC and overseas and just last year released his first CD for the Fresh Sound/ New Talent record label featuring his New York based Quintet. He is also a part of the trio Animal Forum.
Together they perform a mixture of their own compositions, stretching from beautiful melodies into experimental improvisations and occasionally perform in a trio setting with Copenhagen based drummer Kevin Brow.
Sophie and Peter's main project HuffLiGNoN, featuring Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser and New York bassist Michael Bates, will be releasing their debut CD this fall (2008) on Portugal's renowned Clean Feed Records. Concert and CD release information will be posted here over the coming months.
