Myspace Backgrounds I'm pretty much a solo artist at this point that is looking for area musicians to experiment with. Aside from my desire to master the Stick, I also teach big band jazz and music theory at a local public school.

I also like to work on my writing by doing reviews for Amazon. Look me up there and let me know what you think. I'm always trying to improve my text.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: jeffhodges.info
Band Members: At this point, just me. The majority of the tracks that I have posted are from a recent solo recording session with in my boy Stereo Dave's home studio. The track I call "Godzilla" is from an impromptu jam with my drumming aquaintence Dustin circa 2003, recorded with a single mike set up in a public school band hall (after hours, of course).
Influences: Chronologically (and not in order of favoritism): The Moody Blues, Rick Wakeman, John Williams, 70's funk and early rap, Hall & Oates, The Art of Noise, Tears for Fears, Van Halen, Rush, The Police, Yes, Marillion, David Holsinger, Pink Floyd, Living Colour, King Crimson, Count Basie, Gustav Holst, Frank Zappa, Jellyfish, McKoolChords, Pearl Jam, The Foo Fighters, The Beatles, Jeff Buckley. Chris Squire, The Who, Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree, Miles Davis, Emmett Chapman, Trey Gunn, Genesis, John Coltrane, Fela Kuti, Rumah Sakit, Shahid Parvez, Carnatic styles, Queen, Balinese Gamelan, Charlie Parker, E.T. Mensah, Keith Jarrett, Hermeto Pascoal, Muse. Mew, the White Stripes, and Greg Howard.

Also, having learned to read by Marvel and DC comics, I indulged in this "Superhero Personality Quiz." By its estimation,
I am Iron Man Iron Man 85% Spider-Man 65% Superman 65% Hulk 60% Robin 55% Green Lantern 55% The Flash 55% Catwoman 40% Supergirl 40% Wonder Woman 25% Batman 25% Inventor. Businessman. Genius.

Also, I have recently been influenced by the ancient art of Ninjistics. If you have an interest in this discipline, check out the following video. However, I do not take responsibility for the integrety of your cranium.

Sounds Like: My interest in jazz is largely pedagogic, and because of this interest I have gotten quite a bit of educational support from jazz educators. I have also gained a role in so-called "World Music" ensembles, and I attribute my success in these groups to my open-minded apprroach to the generally undefined role of the Stick. As a result, my performance approach is jazzy and my compositional appraoch is mathematic (in the Carnatic tradition). However, my personal background is in power pop and progressive rock. My ambition is to coalesce these disparate styles into a singularly cohesive style.I sound nothing like this guy, but he freaks me out.

Bicycle repairs, proximity, and quality

A quick backstory: anyone who knows me knows I love my bicycle.  I originally bought it using the money I earned from being a paid extra on the set of "Necessary Roughness," a marginal football m...

Stick with Salmon Dance

Of all the places to begin a solo music career, South Texas might be the most inauspicious.  However, I feel that my performance at the Salmon Dance Designs jewelry show in McAllen was a confirm...
