About Me

I work in IT, like science-fiction and have a watch that displays hours and minutes in a binary representation. I think that pretty much sums it up.

I also like dragons; my very first cyber adoption (just slightly updated)...
The Shadowlit Realms

Result of nerd test (not really a surprise) was that I'm 81% nerdier than the rest of you

And the obligatory quizilla result...

You're a spare house key under the mat. Few people
know you're there, but those who do recognize
your worth, especially when they get themselves
in trouble. You might want to be a little more
noticable, but not everyone should know you're
there.

What sort of key are you and what do you unlock?
brought to you by Quizilla

My Interests

Television:

Currently watching Doctor Who and 2nd season of Lost.

The 2nd season of Battlestar Galactica was awesome. Roll on season 3 but I'll probably have to wait ages to see it.

Books:

All time favourite is The Count of Monte Cristo, a book I regularly return to.

Recently enjoyed authors include Iain (M.) Banks, James Barclay, Peter F. Hamilton, Richard Morgan, Terry Pratchett, Alistair Reynolds, Roger Zelazny, David Zindell... and yes, my book collection is ordered alphabetically by author. I'm also looking forward to Stephen Donaldson's new Covenant Chronicles. I suspect I'll be re-reading 1st and 2nd Chronicles soon.

I generally read SF, Fantasy and Horror with the occasional biography or popular science book thrown in (Brian Greene and Richard Dawkins earn a mention here).

The 2007 EFFB (long)

It's that time of year again and once more I embark on a 2 day blitz of the Edinburgh Fetival Fringe. This year, between booking the tickets and the target days the first two shows on day one are canc...

The 2006 EFFB (long)

Another year, another blitz on the Fringe that we call the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Binge. This year there were 5 of us, meaning that for a couple of shows we made up a significant proportion of the ...

Movie review - X-Men: The Last Stand

Well, it was good. But even before the final wrap-up I was sitting in the cinema thinking it just wasn't as good as the other two X-Men films. There was also significant changes from the comics source...

Finally saw a total solar eclipse...

...while stood under a clear, blue sky. It's an awsome sight. There's the build up when the light starts going very weird (not like usual darkening where light diffusion fades colours), it starts gett...

Woo Hoo! Just got my mount...

An Ancient Protector looks on, green with envy, as I cruise past on my new Striped Nightsabre (special thanks to Leaf's druid Pickle for the 50g loan)...I play this game too much, but then I do have a...

Don't get World of Warcraft...

...unless you already don't have a life, in which case I highly recommend it. It's a great game if you have any RPG interests. World of Warcraft is a massively multi-player online game. I don't know ...

The 2005 EFFB (long)

I'm woken by the delivery of some computer equipment (but that's another story) and despite the long lie I still feel totally drained. A pile of ticket stubs is testament to my activities over the pre...

Movie review - Festival

This one is good. It's set during the Edinburgh Festival and was filmed during last year's festival; so I had to go and see it. I'm not one of those Edinburgh residents who sees the festival as an in...

Movie review - War of the Worlds

Just like Jeff Wayne's musical version, this starts with a rectial of (almost all of) the first paragraph of H.G. Wells book. It sounds like Morgan Freeman reading it... "...and slowly and surely drew...

Movie review - Batman Begins

I enjoyed this one. I've heard a lot of people say that this is what the other Batman films should have been (and lets face it some of them were pretty poor - not that it stopped me watching them) an...
