Thanassis Vassilopoulos

Thanasis Vasilopoulos was born in Agrinio, Greece in 1972. He has been involved with music since he was four years old. At the age of five he started learning clarinet. His teacher was his father, the famous in Greece George Vasilopoulos. He started performing in concerts at the age of nine accompanying his father.In 1987 he took his first steps in the greek music discography. Since then, he has collaborated with almost all the Greek artists as session musician in recordings as well as in concerts in Greece and abroad.He has two personal instrumental music CDs titles “Confession” and “In the moon’s light” Since his first years as a performer he connected with the folk music of the East Mediterranean Sea and Middle East. This music influenced him and he started studying the traditional wind instruments like the nei, the mismar, the doo-dook and others which after years of research and practice has mastered.The last years he has turned his interest in the combination of folk solo performance with the forces of a symphonic orchestra and a rock band. The effort to combine those two media was proven to be complex and demanding.
