My Interests

Reading, writing, cooking, my baby Clark, traveling. People's secrets.

I'd like to meet:

Is this supposed to be, "Who would I like to meet through myspace.com?" or "Who would I like to meet in general, in my life?" I can't say I'm terribly interested in making lots of friends through this site, but I would like to find some old, out-of-touch friends. And in real life, I'd like to make some other mommy friends. Also, Isabel Allende. .. --cut and paste--

Music:

I love gospel, blues, jazz, that type of stuff.

Movies:

Pedro Almodovar makes the best films in existence. All About My Mother and Talk to Her are tied for my favorite. I loved Volver just for being a fix.

Television:

We don't have a TV. Right now we're watching Entourage through Netflix and I'm totally hooked. I love you Ari!

Books:

Anything Madeleine L'Engle wrote--A Small Rain and A Severed Wasp are two of my very favorite friends among the many novels I've loved. East of Eden is possibly my favorite book. I love Confederacy of Dunces--recommended reading for any human. One Hundred Years of Solitude--it's absolutely wild, but completely readable. And while it mostly has a reputation for being long, War and Peace ought to be required reading for every literate human. And the literate ones should have to read it out loud to the illiterate ones.

Heroes:

This is seriously difficult! I really can't think of anyone I look up to. It just goes against my nature to create idealistic heroes.

Beautiful praise

Last night someone told me, "Your mind is like a washing machine. I tell you my thoughts, and you cleanse them for me." It's a lovely sentiment, and interestingly phrased, and I was flattered to hea...

Pete and repeat

I've been waiting three years for Clark to talk. I couldn't wait to hear the cute things he'd say that would have me trying to hide laughter, or to hear the surprisingly clever statements he'd come u...

Only in Nashville

So I was at the gym today, chatting with the friendly girl who works at the front counter when another young woman came in. She was greeted by virtually everyone who could see her, and one person sho...

Roe v. Wade

As a child, I participated in an antiabortion demonstration. For weeks leading up to it, my church showed us photos of fetuses and delicately got across just what happened in an abortion. One teache...

Back home

We spent last week at the Lazy H Ranch in Texas, visiting my most beloved relatives. It was a blast--lots of relaxing, drinking, and endless gossiping. Clark adores everything about it. My aunt Son...

Why I hate arguing online

My vagina disqualifies my mind. I said in the comments of a blog post that I didn't think Ron Paul was ever a serious contender for president, and the guy I was arguing with responded, "Hasn't Bob be...

Meg Cabot

I love Meg Cabot. Those of you who know me and my reading tastes might be surprised to hear this (bet you didn't guess I was quite so catholic in my reading, did you?). I want to tell you why I love...

The downsides to Shrek

Your three year old son will start talking in a Scottish accent and referring to you as "donkey."He uses phrases like "coming soon to theaters," which makes you think he's watched entirely too many dv...

Shock to the tender male senses

There's this blog I read because a friend from church occasionally posts great stories about his gorgeous little girls. It's got a great name, thinklings.org, and covers some interesting stuff about ...
