About Me

Guitarist Brian Mitchell, originally from Kansas, went to school and played in various groups in the area, and after some time, moved to New York City to play and learn from the masters living there. Little did he know, soon after arriving, he would meet The Father of Free Jazz, Ornette Coleman, and become one of his only students. Over the course of the next 3 years, Ornette would be a teacher and mentor to Brian, inviting him to band rehearsals and spending many days and nights, the two of them, playing and talking about music. Brian was also performing regularly with Lawrence D. "Butch" Morris, well know NYC conductor. Brian gained more valuable knowledge and confidence, many times asked to contribute ideas to Butch’s group and as a soloist. During this time Brian developed a sound through his teachings from Ornette and Butch and his own discoveries which combined a knowledge and respect for the past, and a realization that music must move forward, the definition of what “music” is must be expanded upon.
d i c o f o n e was born in deepsouth of Italy but when he was one his family moved to Ascoli P. in the middle of peninsula.
