Devastator

About Me

THE ORIGIN OF THE BEAST Devastator was born on the eastern edge of North America with a focus on hard driven heavy metal. At the core of devastator is skilled song writing and powerful performances, which has been carefully crafted over the past 18 years. Devastator has been through a few line-up changes and relocations over the years but is pleased to be home on the rock.
The first line-up, which included Herb Simms (guitar/vocals), Larry Fowler (guitars),Pat Dwyer (bass), Eldon Glen Butt (drums), started it all with a unique blend of rock and metal, creating a sound of their own. This line-up would last two years before going their separate ways, but Herb Simms soldiered on, always believing in the Devastator beast. Devastator continued until '98 in Windsor, Ontario while Herb auditioned members and played in three Detroit bands and 1 Windsor band - Ignition, Raped Nation, Violent New Breed, and Lunacy. It wasn't until moving back to NL in 2005 that Herb found people that could finally help the beast live.
Upon returning to Newfoundland, Herb recruited Noel Smart (drums) and Colin Smart (bass). Although their time with Devastator was short, they contributed valuable input musically, and were instrumental in bringing the current line-up together.
Previous to his stint in Devastator, Noel spent 4 years in the brutal death metal band Asphyxiation with Darryl Reddy, Dwayne Whalen and Joe Dolomont. Darryl shocked and amazed people with his guttural vocals and devastating screams, while Joe and Dwayne shredded on the guitars with a ferocity and chemistry that only 2 decades of jamming together can explain. Little did they know that while they were terrorizing the city of St. John's with their extreme brand of metal, in just a couple of years, Asphyxiation would be the bridge that would connect them with Herb Simms, and ultimately, their inevitable home in Devastator. Although Joe played amazing guitar with Asphyxiation, his ability to play multiple instruments would land him the role of drummer for Devastator. With the addition of the extremely talented Chris Coleman on bass, the ultimate Devastator line-up would be complete. Gigging since the age of thirteen, Chris brings experience and ability to the table despite being the youngest member of the band.
After jamming with Herb Simms, who is an infinite pool of metal knowledge and riff-ology, it didn't take long for everyone to realize the potential of this band. Devastator's current line-up is the best anyone could hope for and with the beast that is Devastator there is no limit. Pure fucking metal with no compromises and one of the most intense live shows in metal is what they are about.
Devastator has always been ahead of its time. With the incorporation of old school thrash, death metal and the best and most intense elements of rock they continue to carry on the tradition. Devastator has shared the stage with many great acts throughout its history including MISERY INDEX, THINE EYES BLEED, ENTOMBED, ANVIL, RAZOR, GWAR, MARTYR, WEAPON, SHEAVY, MIND RIP, ENDOMETRIUM, FOUR QUESTION MARKS, HANDS OF DEATH and many, many others. The time is right for the Devastator beast to break out and bring its intensity to the world.
