About Me
ABOUT ME...
I have lived my entire life in the Harrisburg, PA area, from a large, close knit family of 7 kids. From as early as i can remember, i have always loved animals. horses were my childhood love, and although i think they are probably the most majestic domestic animal that i will ever come across, dogs have replaced them for me as my favorite. growing up, i only ever had a dog once and always relied on my friends dogs to amuse me. my mother was and still is a cat person, and just never wanted the extra care (with 7 kids, she had no time as it was) that a dog took, thus, i had a rat terrier for a few years, until mother found someone to take her. broke my heart and i went back to relying again on my friends dogs. mother taught me a lot about caring for animals, including trying to nurse a very sick kitten with the help of our vet, which we eventually lost to some kind of intenstinal issue. i decided very early on, that as soon as i had my own place, i would have what ever animal i wanted...oh, yeah...i guess i would have to make sure it would be ok with my husband!!??? well, he is pretty easy going and even thou at first, he wouldnt let me have anything but a cat and a parakeet, i eventually talked him into a parrot (ok, so i brought it home during christmas one year) and a dog (ok, so i volunteered us to doggy sit for a friends lab while she moved to NY)didnt take long for him to fall for Norman, and we eventually ended up keeping Norman due to some health issues that arose that made being with her kids painful for him. i have rescued a pair of beagles & raised 2 of their litters, placing all the pups in good, sound, loving homes. i had a litter of golden retievers (11 of them!) placing most of them with friends and family. and i have rescued 2 litters of kittens, nursing one kitten in particular from the brink of death (my bobbi)after losing my beloved 15 year old beagle boy, snoopy, in october, i adopted my little emmitt boy. he is my pride and joy now. he came from unknown back ground, as he was found roaming the streets in york county, pennsylvania. a few issues, that we are working with have to do with food aggression & "ownership" (as in he thinks he owns me and not the other way around) dealing with this little pup has put Cesar to the forth front with me. religiously watching his show and taking in what i can learn from him, i think we have made major strides with emmitt. there are still some small issues to work out, but with consistant training and strong leadership, i think he is going to be a fine little boy! right now, we have chelsea, emmitt, bobbi, rusty, & bouncer. we also have a few "neighborhood strays" that we care for, gracie & precious. i say nighborhood strays loosely, because they dont leave our property anymore, so i guess, they really do belong to me, as i do take care of them. (think i could get a grant as a rescue??) LOL. anyway, thats my story, whats yours???
