DJ DLO

Mike Dela Cruz aka DJ DLO’s passion for music began back in his teenage years at Kelvin High School where he hosted a highly popular campus radio show for two consecutive years. Through this radio show spawned the opportunity to dj many successful dance parties.
Although music has always played an essential role in DLO’s life, it was not until watching one of hip hop’s legendary djs, DJ KOOL RED ALERT, that he realized his calling as a dj.
“I watched every hand movement Red Alert made from beginning to end”, said DLO. “It was amazing to watch. But what floored me was when he began mixing two songs with one hand while fixing the back of the mixer. To a kid as ‘green’ to dj’ing as I was, this was mind-blowing!”
DLO was inspired to buy his first set of turntables and since then he hasn’t looked back. From his start as an R&B/Hip Hop dj, DLO has evolved into one of the country’s most versatile djs…PERIOD. His uncanny ability to set off any party with his eclectic collection of FUNK, HOUSE, TOP 40’S, HIP HOP, R&B, ROCK & MASHUPS makes DLO the premiere choice in Winnipeg’s club & party scene.
With a dj career spanning 12 years and counting, DLO has held down four successful radio shows such as the "Saturday Night Mixdown" on (the now defunct) Flava 107.9 and "Six Degrees" Mixshow on 95.9 CKUW as well as countless residencies throughout Winnipeg.
Because of his excepontial ability to adapt his set to any type of audience, DLO has also become the dj of choice for various Winnipeg organizations such as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Cancer Care Manitoba, The Asper Founda1on as well as the many college and university student associations across Manitoba.

There have been many highlights throughout DLO’s career. He has shared the stage with some of the music & entertainment industry’s elite.

DLO’s hard work and perseverance has not gone without recognition. DLO had the honor of being nominated for a 2006, 2007 & 2008 "STYLUS DJ AWARD" for "Winnipeg DJ of the YEAR"!!! In addition, he competed in the 2008 REDBULL 3STYLE BATTLE where he placed a dramatic 3rd overall.
DLO’s musical inspiration comes from an array of musical sources. His musical style has been molded by the influences of Funk Master Flex, Master Mind, DJ Rectangle, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ AM, TEAM CANADA and DJ Kool. Winnipeg’s many local djs also played an integral role in DLO’S turntable tactics.
While the challenges and competion contnue to rise, DLO continues to hold his own as Winnipeg’s AND Canada's dj elite.
