Beyond Eden

About Me

Beyond Eden is at the forefront of a revolution of music for the soul.
Born in 2003 in Toronto, Canada, from two friends experimenting with the roots of ethnic Judaic music and two members of the popular funk-house ensemble King Sunshine, Beyond Eden hits deep with an exceptional fusion of musical styles; incorporating elements of soul, disco, rock, and hip-hop into a thunderous funk foundation. Their songs contain messages of spirit: messages of hope, unity, and transcendence.
Their unique approach to spiritual music with a universal appeal and their experiential live shows have garnered them a growing fan base across North America. The band aspires to 'move' people to a deeper consciousness through the energy of their music and the experience of their live performance. The groups live shows are high-energy and intense, with a pulsating groove, designed to keep audiences on their feet and dancing throughout.
The band is led by charismatic frontman Chayim Newman and keyboardist David Austin, both of whom share the songwriting and vocal duties. The danceable vibe that has fueled their recognition can be credited to the driving rhythm section of Jono Landon (drums), Marc Shaps Shapiro (bass), and Avi Zemer (electric guitar).
Beyond Eden prides itself on being a giant musical family, and other than its core members, rarely do they flourish the same lineup at consecutive shows. Extended family members include: world-renowned jazz trumpeter Nick Ali, saxophonist Charlie Finlay, guitar/mandolin player Mark Weinstock, percussionist/break dancer Yudi Simon, and a host of others.
Members of the band have shared the stage with diverse musicians such as Norah Jones, Matisyahu, David Broza, John Sebastian, Mike Gordon, Derek Carter, Mark Farina & DJ Sneak.
In 2004, the band released an experimental and somewhat satirical album containing Hebrew and English songs in a variety of genres, entitled, On the D. They recently finished recording an EP of new songs with ex-Our Lady Peace guitarist Mike Turner, and are currently working on their first major release.
