Special Exhibit

"Beyond the Power"

This profound exhibit of "Beyond the Power", consists of photographs taken at Three Forks, Montana, by Susanna Rosso Wolf from 2006 to present.
In the Photographer's own words:
"When out for walks on our land in Three Forks, Montana, you can’t help but notice the interruption of the landscape caused by the enormous electrical power poles that dot the north side leading up into the hills of the Tobacco Root Mountains. The more I walked the land with my camera, my frustration mounted. How can I shoot these incredible sunsets with those awful power lines in the way? Every time a breathtaking cloud formation would pass by, those poles and lines would be in my way. I tried driving up the road a bit, to find different angles, without the obstruction, but the shots were never as powerful as they were from my land. Here in Montana, the sky changes moment to moment. From huge white pillows of clouds to a rainbow of sunsets on whips of feathers; from black and blue thunderous threats, to blankets of rain in the distance. My heart's desire to capture these moments in the sky above me were damaged by the rudeness of these wires, these man-made things that stuck out of the beauty like a black eye on the Mona Lisa.
One day, I was walking with my tiny digital camera, just fooling around with some live stock shots, when a great wind whipped up and the thick white balloons above me became black and purple in an instant. Across the prairie, I could see a sheet of rain falling on a neighboring town. I brought my viewfinder up to shoot the rain and those power lines were right in my way, again. I took the shot anyway, and for some reason, I just kept shooting. When I came back to the house to take a look, I was amazed at how elegant the power lines and poles appeared on the hills. The wind had blown so hard; it looked as if the lines were dancing a ballet, and at that moment, I knew, I must document this strange dichotomy between natures power and mans need for power.
In every shot I’ve taken since that day, it’s always true, that nature outweighs anything man can ever do or attempt to do. No matter how much of an intrusion these lines may be, God's love provides such incredible beauty that if we really stop and look, pay attention, our eyes see beyond the power lines, and capture the beauty of His glory, no matter what stands in our way, our vision, our sight. Three Forks, Montana has been a great source of artistic inspiration, I’m truly blessed to live in a place where the subject matter appears before me, in great abundance."

Most Important Interests "I can’t really put my interests into little boxes with labels on them. Most Important, somewhat important, not so important and so on. All of my interests are important to me. But my priority is my husband, family and friends. My animals, my community, my little world that I live in is very important to me. Being an uplifting influence makes me happy and I achieve that through meditation, prayer, a solid foundation from childhood, and living a completely creative existence. I’m very blessed to have the ability to create my visions, see them to fruition and to share them with others. Whether it be on a canvas, through the lense of my camera, writing poetry or a novel, working in my garden, or from my crochet hooks, I’m living a dream while I indulge in all of the many activities that bring me great joy. I love swimming in the ocean and going for long walks with my dogs. I adore listening to Italian music while I cook fabulous meals. But I could just as easily be amused by taking my little Bass boat out and fishing all day. Life just takes me wherever it pleases from one minute to the next and I enjoy all of it, I really do. That’s the way my life has been ever since I can remember. I have truly been blessed with a colorful and rich life." - Susanna Rosso Wolf
