I'm not very good at writing about myself. I'm probably my biggest critic.
I am are funny, fun loving,a good mother, honest, loyal, loving, and very caring. My family and friends mean the world to me.
I love camping and try to go every weekend being that I have a permanent site. I enjoy cooking and baking and I have been told that I'm very good at both.I am dedicated to raising public awareness about Lymphoma. Lymphoma is a cancer of the white blood cells, namely lymphocytes,
that happen to constitute the lymphatic system.
The two main types of lymphoma are Hodgkin lymphoma
and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Lymphoma is the most common
blood cancer and the third most common cancer of
childhood. Lymphoma occurs when lymphocytes grow
abnormally. The body has two types of lymphocytes: B lymphocytes,
or B-cells, and T lymphocytes, or T-cells.
Although both cell types can develop into lymphomas, B-
cell lymphomas are more common. Like normal lymphocytes,
those that turn malignant can grow in many parts of
the body, including the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow,
blood, or other organs.
The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) is the nation's largest lymphoma-focused voluntary
health organization devoted exclusively to funding lymphoma research and providing
patients and health care professionals with critical information on the disease.
LRF's mission is to eradicate lymphoma and serve those touched by this disease. When my husband, only 59, found out that what we thought was gastrointestinal problems, was really a non-hodgkin lymphoma called Mantle Cell Lymphoma we were shocked. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a B-cell lymphoma that
gets its name because mantle cell tumors are composed
of cells that come from the “mantle†zone of the lymph
node. Frequently, MCL is diagnosed as a stage 4 disease,
often present in lymph nodes above and below the
diaphragm and in most cases involves the gastrointestinal
tract and bone marrow. MCL is a relatively rare disease,
constituting only about 6% of all NHL cases in the United
States (ie.only about 3,000 cases per year in the U.S.). This
lymphoma usually affects men over the age of 60.
After the shock wore off and I had time to read and investigate this cancer I decided that I would set out to get volunteers to help me raise money for research. After talking to the people at LRF, I put my plan of action to work.
My goal is to raise at least 5,000.00 by the end of March to be donated to LRF in honor of my husband. That might not seem like much, but its a start and if every family of a loved one that was diagnosed with Lymphoma, no matter what kind, would raise money and donate it to LRF it would make a difference.
