(734)323-0054BIO:Born in the heart of rustbelt America, the Quilters’ blend of fast, dance-rock and sonic interference is a mirror of post-industrial pop culture. Their sound gives a nod to other Michigan bands like the Stooges, the MC-5, the Hyenas and Mule, while retaining their unique, free-guitar styling and random, analog tape looping. Vocalist Fred Jones’ vocal style is said to be similar to that of Lemmy of Motorhead.Guitarist Rob K lives in Lansing, MI. He writes for and performs with the Celtic-style band, The Lash. His self-taught speed and virtuosity on guitar gives the Quilters its “out music†flair, while retaining its hard-and-fast rhythm. He’s currently working on a fifth album of solo work after having made four self-produced records with the Lash.Drummer Bobby Bryan is a session musician and studio drummer. He performs regularly with the Lash and with "Steppin' in it", a local ‘roots blend' of blues and old-timey country. His steady beats and tasty fills are the heart of the Quilters’ sound.Bassist and singer Fred Jones hails from Lansing, MI via Ann Arbor, MI and Philadelphia, PA. Heavily influenced by Mike Davis and Ron Ashton of Ann Arbor, Jones continues a tradition of heavy-fast bass work and heart-felt lyrics.
He has done previous work as a session musician in Ann Arbor and Philly and contributes cultural writing for “The Defenestrator†newspaper and the A-Infos website.The Quilters also use an analog “robot†which plays chance-composed tape loops as a counterpoint to their straight-ahead rock sound. The resulting aura is a densely layered wall of sound which gives a surprise element to the band’s performance. In contrast with recent “lap-top†bands, the tape loop retains the randomness essential for experimental, free-music.
