... the simple and impossible beauty of sound...
Daniel Brandes completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Windsor in 2007, where he studied piano with Dr. Philip Adamson and composition with Dr. Brent Lee. His other composition instructors have included James Harley and Linda Catlin Smith. As a very active young composer, Daniel has explored many mediums of composition including solo, vocal, chamber, choral and orchestral music as well as collaborations in the visual arts and free improvisation. Since 2003, Daniel has had his music performed in concerts, workshops and reading sessions by the Brave New Works Ensemble, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the Windsor Community Orchestra, the Bozzini String Quartet and the Ensemble Contemporain de Montreal. Daniel’s music is primarily concerned with exploring the potential of, and depth of expression within, a very limited musical vocabulary. By focusing on small gradations in timbre, colour and tuning, Daniel tries to find new and unusual means of musical expression. Daniel is currently pursuing a Masters of Music in composition at the University of Victoria where he studies composition with Christopher Butterfield and Daniel Peter Biro.
