Music composition and performance, politics, religion, travel, hiking, blah blah blah blah blah...................
I took these pics:
Segovia, Spain. Click to enlarge. Yes, it really is that beautiful there. Pic was taken from the tower of the Alcazar (Arabic for "fortress" - now a military museum).
Roadside castle, s.w. of Avila, Spain.
1st Century Roman Aqueduct, Segovia. Nothing holding the stones together but gravity; not a stone out of place.
Moorish minaret w/ Catholic bell tower top, Sevilla, Spain. (It was originally covered with mosaic tiles.) A good example of how the Spanish messed up perfectly awesome Islamic architecture after La Reconquista. Fortunately, an identical sister minaret, intact, stands in Marrakesh, Morocco. Pic was taken from a grove of orange trees. (Oranges were not native to Spain but were brought in by the Moors from North Africa; the Spanish brought them to the New World - just some random bits of trivia.)
People who try to see past the illusions of this world. I am really not interested in associating with anyone else. I am so sick and tired of all this pettiness that I see and encounter everywhere.
Austin Reggae Fest 2007 promo video featuring a snippet of our performance of "Hypocritical" and a half-second cameo by yours truly. See if you can spot me. (Hint: I'm the one in the banana suit. Kidding!)
Bob Dylan - "Mr. Tambourine Man," 1964. Absolutely amazing. Check out that last verse.
Bob Marley - "Them Belly Full (But We Hungry)," 1977.
The Beatles - "From Me to You," 1964 (1st American tour).
Otis Redding with Booker T. & the M.G.'s - "Try a Little Tenderness," 1967(?)
Jimi Hendrix - "Machine Gun," New Year's Eve 1969/70, San Francisco. The coolest guitar solo EVER!The Beatles - "Let it Be," 1970. Live in the studio. Great vocal from Paul. Sorry for the glitch at the beginning.
David Bowie - "Starman," 1972.
Bob Dylan - "Like a Rolling Stone," 1966. Unfortunately, the sound is a little thin, so turn it up & boost your subwoofer.
Bob Marley - "Crazy Baldheads/Running Away," 1977.
Not much of anything past about the 70's or so - reggae, funk, blues, soul, rock, r & b, some country, world music - I'm talkin' old school here; none of that no talent, commercialized crap that is so prevalent these days, and it's got to have some soul, and as Bob Marley once said, "If you make me move, then you know you've got the groove." There is some good modern stuff, but it's hard to find. If it's good then I will like it. However, most of the time I'm singing or humming to myself and I don't need external music.
I tend to prefer non-mainstream flicks - mostly dramas.....historical movies, documentaries, too. Comedies are cool as well.
P.B.S., baby. I'd also watch the History Channel if I had cable.
Huh? Just kidding. I AM in grad school, so I've read a few. Non-fiction almost exclusively. Books about history & politics, biographies, spiritual philosophy, etc.
Every human being on earth, especially the poor and downtrodden and those who have far heavier burdens than I. Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock - "Star Spangled Banner," 1969. The Wailers (featuring Bob Marley) - "Concrete Jungle," 1973. James Brown - "Sex Machine/Soul Power," 1970. Check out an 18 yr. old Bootsy Collins on bass.
