About Me

MY MUSIC
Yup, that’s my own music up there in the player, which will come as quite a surprise to most people who know me! :)
I have absolutely NO experience singing and very little playing. Still, music has always been an important part of my life, and I guess I've always had some kind of urge to express myself that way - I just never had the guts to do anything about it till now. It may have something to do with the fact that I’ve been surrounded by professional musicians half of my life so I know how great it CAN sound, lol.
Anyways, it's time to stop being so shy about it! So here are my first attempts of writing, playing and singing my very own tunes. They're all made in my room with a keyboard*, a mike and a Cubase programme.
As for music editing this is also completely new to me so you'll have to forgive me for the obvious imperfection. In fact I really haven't figured out that MIDI stuff yet, so for now it's all recorded in audio using the sounds (incl. drums) of my keyboard. I guess I'll figure it out eventually, lol.
I consider all these tunes "drafts" only of course. Ideally they should be recorded with "real" instruments played by real musicians! Maybe some day. Got loads of tunes in the drawer so many more to come.
The music is .... hard to explain. I guess it's a strange mix of my pop/rock influences of the 80's with tiny glimpses of jazz and classical?
Any kind of feed back is of course GREATLY welcomed!

MY WORLD :

Yours truly ... happily surrounded by some of the faces, sounds, characters, creatures, things, images etc that have been part of my life till now.

I was born in Denmark in 1971. Grew up listening to classical, jazz and pop/rock while hoping to marry Superman one day! During my teenage years I became more reasonable and wanted to marry Phil Collins instead, but for various reasons that didn't work out quite as planned! Nevertheless I still have a great deal of admiration for this man's music and drumming .. incl. with Genesis of course!
Throughout the 90s I got quite involved with the local jazz scene (not as a musician though) and didn't listen to any other music than jazz for more than a decade. I ended up marrying a world class jazz drummer in 2002 - not quite Superman but close !! We are still working on the flying bit.

I absolutely LOVE jazz and jazz people, not least their humour, but I also have a great deal of affection for other kinds of music. For instance I really really DO like Genesis! (well, Genesis fans will get that one!). I play a bit of piano and a bit of jazz drums myself. A bit!
Besides the music I'm attracted to anyone and anything that can make me LAUGH, to people who believe in and work for peace, and to people who make me wiser. And I seem to love anything British! Sir Michael Caine in particular.

I don't believe in coincidences; I trust there's a meaning of life, and I'm happy with my beliefs. I'm interested in how the body and mind are connected and so I'm a strong advocate of holistic body treatment ( Body-SDS: ). I'm equally enthusiastic about feeding dogs the natural "wolf" way ( BARF-feeding: ) instead of poisoning them with processed dog food and God knows what else we do to the poor creatures.

Also, I'm a childrens book writer, personal assistant, dog person, food enthusiast (pancake addictive!), lazy art lover - and probably a couple of other things as well. Depending on the company I can be very quiet or very talkative! And I tend to giggle in my sleep ...

You really don't wanna hear anymore.

Influences:

THEIR MUSIC :

Quite a lot of CLASSICAL music: Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Kuhlau, Haydn, Dvorak, Teleman, Verdi, Pucchini, Strawinsky, Carl Nielsen, Sibelius, Grieg ..

Loads of JAZZ music: Fats Waller, Count Basie, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Harry Sweets Edison, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Elvin Jones, Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, Bill Evans, Mike Brecker, Mike Stern, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Jerry Bergonzi ... the list goes on an on and on ..

Lots of POP and ROCK music from the 70s and 80s in particular: Genesis, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, Sting, Peter Gabriel, The Police etc .... I was thrilled to see a couple of Genesis (reunion) shows in 2007. Just brilliant!!!

...not to forget Brand X, Savage Rose, Dire Straits, Sanne Salomonsen, Earth Wind & Fire, Søs Fenger, Maroon 5, The Rolling Stones, Rugsted & Kreutzfeldt, Sebastian, Lis Sørensen, Tina Turner, Weather Report, Elton John, Eva Cassidy, Hanne Boel, Prince, Stevie Wonder ....confused?

MY BOOKS :

I've written (and partly illustrated) a few school books / childrens books since 1995. Most of them have been published under my former name, Ane Brahm Lauritsen. The subjects go from art and architecture (educational) to crime, humour, divorce, love and ballet!
They are all in Danish ... for now anyway.
