Mike Copass is a Progressive Democratic Candidate for US Congress in California's 53rd District. A native of the Pacific Northwest, Mike attended college in California, obtaining bachelor's degrees in both Classics and Biological Sciences from Stanford University. Inspired by eminent microbiologist Stanley Falkow, Copass pursued work in microbiology and vaccine development in Siena, Italy for several years, before returning to Boston for graduate work in Microbiology at Harvard Medical School.
After obtaining a master's degree in microbiology and molecular genetics, Copass settled in San Diego. An avid runner and enthusiastic bike-commuter, Copass now works as a science consultant to a large plaintiffs' firm in downtown San Diego, assisting in prosecuting cases against pharmaceutical companies and other corporations alleged to have violated The Securities Exchange Act. Copass has been a vocal opponent of the occupation in Iraq, and the restoration of the Rule of Law. Mike strongly advocates for the separation of corporation and state, and is proud to be a member of Progressive Democrats of America.
Michael trained as a middle-distance runner at Mercer Island High School, setting a 4:18.6 mark in the mile, and was a member of the Stanford University Cross Country and Track teams from 1987 to 1989. Michael continues to run as an amateur, and to assist others in running programs for fun and fitness.
