About Me

Roberto James Browning grew up 4 miles south of the Rio Grande river. As a young child, Roberto would scurry down to the local barios and ghettos in search of food. One day he heard the sweet sounds of a local hombre's guitar filling the air, inspiring him to take up the craft and become a musician. After years spent toiling in smokey brothels and musky bath houses, Browne decided a move to the United States was exactly what he needed to jump start his professional music career. He followed his dreams, and a map, to a tiny suburb of Vermont. Once firmly established, Roberto decided his songs needed more substance so he began adding members to what would become known as the Brownstar 5. He also realized that image and marketing was everything and quickly changed his name from Roberto James Browning to Bobby Brownstar. With a band and a catchy name, his dream of ultimate music success was nearer. With the addition of more musicians to his backing band, the name of the group changed to Bobby Brownstar and the Brownstar Band. The groups music was striking a chord with local audiences in the backwoods of Vermont, but the decision was made to pack up and risk it all. Bobby headed down to New York where he played the usual rounds (CBGB's, etc.). Record execs from Atlantic took notice of his amazing stage presence and unbounding sexual energy on stage and signed him and his band to a 5 year development deal. Struggling through the limitations of a major label resulted in the release of only one album, which was shelved by record execs. After the 5 years with Atlantic, Bobby created his own label La Cef Records where he would release his biggest and only album of his professional career: Chocolate Highway. Despite protests from PTA groups for his racey lyrics, the album sold over 675,000 units its first week, ultimately landing on the Billboard Independent Adult Contemporary Charts at ..1! Bobby Brownstar's road to success was a rollercoaster ride of tragedy and triumph, but he is on a new path headed straight toward worldwide glory and fame!
