He wins so frequently, plays our sport so instinctually, and gobbles up life on the road at such a frantic and furious pace he's either possessed by demons or blessed by the gods.You might think this is bullshit, and I wish it were, but Ollie's life and luck make me question the Declaration of Independence: All men are not created equal. Come find me someday, I'll tell you a few stories and all will become clear to you. I'm not the only one. I've had late night drunken conversations with half of the paintball hierarchy about Ollie's deity status. It all boils down to the fact that at an instinctual level, the level of cats fighting dogs and street fight heroics, he just doesn't view reality with same seriousness the rest of us do; to him everything is possible - even if it blatantly isn't, he has to try anyway.His is a viking soul, a warriors soul, comfortable in chaos, with no fear and no stoplights. We've almost come to blows over his disregard for reality and I've almost come to tears watching him move through it. Tattooed into the neck of surfing/skating prodigy Jay Adams, the original extreme sports wild-child, are the words "100% skateboarder". When he skated, it was said the moves came out of him at the speed of consciousness. If anybody can claim that title right now in our sport, play the game like he's born to do it, play it so well all others who try it after him will be measured by his high water mark, it's Oliver Lang.The only tats he has to tell this to the world are his welt scars.
