About Me
Born in Mexico City, Mexico. Lived in this city for twelve years until moving to the United States at the age of thirteen. Settled in the city of San Antonio, Texas, for a year. During this new period in a different country, language and lifestyle, relocated to the city of Houston. Then and there began musical trajectory. Being self-taught, first musical influences came from whatever was there to listen to. Started playing drums, guitar, and bass. While developing technique, formed a raw garage duo with a classmate. Sharpened skills in all three instruments by performing in multiple cities in Texas. The duo project lasted approximately one year. After this first encounter with the music environment, opted for composing and performing solo. Felt this decision would lead to analyze surrounding environment and develop abilities for conscious experimentation. Immersed in the various branches of electronic music and started recording all types of sounds to use for creating new musical pieces. The encounter with a contrasting fresh atmosphere was a fountain of inspiration and led to form El Motor Humano, a fusion of different elements in one characterized by the notion that all human beings have multiple sectors within their motor. Was able to rapidly get this new project on track with the experience of the previous one. However, no material was released from this experience other than sporadic recordings and performances. Later, changed pseudonym to Tlacatl, which means human being in Nahuatl (native language of the Mexica people, better known as Aztecs). With this new persona, was able to head in a parallel direction with a new perspective; at the same time, formed another duo with a long-time friend. Paired by common influences, this association yielded several works: Tonalli (Nahuatl for Solar Light), composed various ambient/electro pieces, and self-released Miyotl, or Ray of Light. Presently, the duo continues composing and experimenting. While going on with both projects, returned to San Antonio to begin university studies in architecture. Worked as a disc-jockey for the university’s radio station, KUIW (University of the Incarnate Word), and played many original works there. After a semester at this university, moved to Brazil. During this period, participated in the “1st Colloquium of Sustainable Design†at the UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) in Mexico City. The project was titled Nocalhuan, and consisted of self-sustainable living spaces. Presently living in the state of São Paulo, encountered yet another country, language, and culture. Developing more influences in Brazil’s multi-ethnic and musically diverse environment, embraced RÎ as a new solo project. Planning to self-release a full length album in July of 2008. Currently living and studying in Brazil.
