Phils-ville

About Me

About the gatekeeper of the Phillies blog , Patrick Berkery.
In my travels I've watched many a Phils game on my laptop thanks to MLB.TV - quite possibly the best invention in the history of inventions. I grew up in south Jersey loving the Phils, and my first - and worst - baseball memory was the Black Friday game in '77. My best was sitting in front of Tug McGraw at the '96 All-Star game and having a brief yet hilarious conversation with him after the game.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who loves Philadelphia and the Phillies!

With Lidge, Cholly's being loyal to a fault

Say this about Charlie Manuel's decision to stick with Brad Lidge as closer - even after last night's near disaster: The man is loyal. Has your back when EVERYONE - from Sal on the car phone, to the g...

Cause for concern, not panic

Do the Phils have the talent to win it all again? No question, despite another melt-down from the blister-ridden Brad Lidge, who it appears will remain the Phillies' closer come Hell or high water.Do ...

Great moments in ballplayers misquoting The Bard

Our Randarino waited, and waited, and waited for one of the Phillies regulars to face the music and address the team's recent offensive futility (11 runs in their last six games). Finally, the most fu...

Less than perfect just fine for Hamels

That was Cole Hamels THE PITCHER you saw twirling a gem against The Giants last night. Not the puzzling enigma, not the ace-in-hiding. He wasn't fighting himself, wasn't trying to be too perfect. And ...

Phinal exams: The bullpen

If Cholly's gonna cuss us for looking past the remaining 34 games, then let's look for areas this Phillies team needs to improve upon over the final five weeks of a season that - barring a catastrophe...

An offensive offense

I'm paraphrasing Larry Andersen's sad-but-kinda-true summation of the Phillies' offense from Saturday night's radio broadcast:"Unless the Phillies are hitting home runs, they're really not a good offe...

It's a shame about J.(A.)

For this observer, last night hurt more than Tuesday's loss. And just like Tuesday, last night's defeat should serve as a lesson on counting your chickens before they're hatched. You let even a lowly ...

Chan Ho Next

New rule: Relievers that blow saves are not be eligible to collect the win should they still be the pitcher of record when/if their team regains the lead. The guy who gets the game-winning hit should ...

It's time for a change

The upside in Brad Lidge's gut-punch 9th blown save of the season last night? It took just seven pitches. A sudden death beats a slow, agonizing demise anytime. Not many witnesses - and most of them w...
