ABOUT RISING BROOK WRITERSFormed in 2005 RISING BROOK WRITERS is a voluntary registered charitable trust for the Over 5Os/senior citizens and disabled writers. RBW aims are to share the joys of creative writing with others: to empower/encourage/build self-esteem/build self-confidence through self-expression by means of the medium of Creative Writing. RWB is also a publishing house for the works of our workshop participants. YES we publish books.
RISING BROOK WRITERS meets in Rising Brook Branch Library STAFFORD Staffs UK on Monday afternoons.
RBW also holds touring creative writing workshops - EVERYONE HAS A STORY TO TELL - for senior citizens/Over 50s organisations which started in the Spring of 2006 - grant aided by Age Concern/Awards for All and many other funders.
The 2005 project was a themed anthology about Old Time Music Hall in the 1930s. TALES FROM THE GAIETY was jam packed with stories/articles/graphics which showcased the talents of this group. Comedy was a new field for everyone - our writers usually produce: crime fiction - plays - film scripts - poetry - non-fiction articles.
Some RBW writers are absolute beginners while others are published novelists/playwrights, award winning poets and retired journalists.
The Creative Writing Workshops Tour (15-20 workshops) for 2007 recorded a slice of local social history i.e. Home Front Memories. The 2007/08 workshops were led by a popular local author and university lecturer. A community workshop based anthology: STAFFORD REMEMBERS : ON THE HOME FRONT & NOW THE WAR IS OVER featuring pictures and memories of local residents was published in Spring 2008 funded by Awards For All.
In 2008 RBW held its first DRAMA DAY in conjunction with Etruria Cafe Theatre. Seven plays written by RBW participants were rehearsed. RBW also launched its first POETRY COLLECTION in the book STAFFORDSHIRE INTROSPECTIVE.
The project theme for 2008-09 is STAFFORD REMEMBERS: Oh we DID like to be beside the seaside! Memories of the postwar British seaside holiday.
