Safe Haven (Songs up!)

About Me

Safe Haven began in September 2007 when front-men and guitarists, Mitch Michael Herman and Kipp Grange, wanted to leave their acoustic/solo career and gear their songs into a band. Unsure of where to find a bass player and drummer they started looking around Greeley. Having played with the now bassist, Nic Hammerberg off and on, Nic introduced them to a eager Tommy Boynton(drummer), who just happened to be attending UNC the following year. A weekend trip to Goodland, Kansas (don't ask why we went to such a place as that...) later, the four decided they had to start a band.
Mitch and Kipp had previously talked about the name Safe Haven, but Nic and Tommy weren't too keen on it...for fear of having the Christian label thrown on them. It wasn't long before the name just seemed to work. Music was their "haven", and as cheesy as it sounds, it was the truth. The four live, eat, and breath music.
After working for about a month the band had their first gig at a benefit for Suicide Prevention. Although it wasn't the most solid by any means, the four realized that they could do this!
Mitch had already built up a bit of a cult-following in Greeley, so Safe Haven had a great basis to build from. It wasn't long before they had gigs lined up left and right. Safe Haven sold out their first show at The Beetle, March 1st, 2008, and was continuing to book shows. This all was happening very fast, and was really catching the band by surprise.
Each member was still attending school, and being music majors, they were also in many music groups, so it was hard to even find the time to practice. Despite this, the band was able to develop five complete songs together, and are continuing to write. With their four part harmonies and melodic creativity Safe Haven creates a new atmosphere with its live shows and in studio music.
2008 will be the last year for everyone at UNC, and quite possibly the last year for Safe Haven. Drummer/Singer, Tommy Boynton right now has his heart set on SWCC in Iowa where he will be studying intensively at a music conservatory. Bassist/Singer Nic Hammerberg will be moving to Denver, to attend Metropolitan State Denver. Not sure what he's studying he wants to really focus on developing and honing his skills as a singer/bassist/guitarist. Guitarist/Singer Mitch Herman, and guitarist/singer Kipp Grange are moving to Orlando, Florida to attend Full Sail University to study Audio Engineering. Everyone is extremely excited for next year, but very reluctant to leave the band.
HERE'S THE KICKER: if the band really picks up (whatever that means), Mitch and Kipp might just stay, and really see where this band goes! Also, Nic is considering moving to Orlando with them. The band is for now enjoying their last time together!
They want to say thank you to everyone who has supported them! We love you all!
