Coming with a fiery passion to reach the hip hop culture GP1 (the gospel preaching one) brings music for a generation that is lost and living in darkness. Born in Waco, Texas Josue Rodriguez or “gp1†is the first born to Pastors Moises and Abby Rodriguez. At the age of 1 he moved to a suburb of Atlanta, GA where his father worked with the North American Missions Board. It was through NAMB that Josue's' first love for media and music came to life. Growing up he had many opportunities to work with NAMB’s media department and to see how recording studios operated, which sparked an interest in Josue’s life. At the age of 12, Josue’s family moved from their home in Atlanta to Fort Worth, TX where his father took a position as Pastor to Primera Baptist Church of Fort Worth. It was in these during these years that Josue would discover the ministry in which God wanted him to serve in. At the age of 13 he felt God calling him into ministry but he did not know in which direction. Three years later he was exposed o the world of Gospel Hip Hop and knew that’s where the Lord wanted him.
Gp1's story is much different than many contemporary Hip Hop artists . He never grew up in the ghetto, he’s never smoked, never drank, he’s never sold drugs or been in a gang. Yet, there are so many youths out there just like him who have grown up in the church but don't know true relationship with God.. They have never truly learned to have faith in Jesus Christ. GP1 ministries is a ministry to reach out to all people, not just the thugs or people living the street life. As Hip Hop becomes more mainstream and different types of people listen to it, it is important to saturate the genre with Christian lyrics. With songs like "Stand Up" and "From Me to You," GP1 tells the world how against all odds and opposition they can be made strong through Christ and have victory. His vision is to see today’s youth come to a realization that their desperation for Christ outweighs anything in this world and there is only one thing that will save this generation from the flames of hell, JESUS CHRIST.
