About Me

DEMOCRACY IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT
i'm amanda.
i love disneyland (and am proud to be a passholding dork!)
...caffeine, politics, my BEAUTIFUL sisters, being barefoot, feminism, silent movies, my chicas, incense, frida kahlo, reading, lip gloss, audrey hepburn, salty food, my nephew Hunka Butt, arguing, las vegas, mary janes and cardigans, electric blankets, green tea ice cream, souvenir snow globes, cheese popcorn, "sister ray", sylvia plath, gardenias, candles, sarcasm, road trips, black t-shirts, anything tiki, louise brooks, marc jacobs perfume, blue glass, religious art, burgundy nail polish, shiraz, and other random stuff. i'm still out to save the world from itself but i believe that there's more to it than wearing a rubber bracelet. i still want my own pair of ruby slippers (size 7. help me out!). i don't judge one way or the other, so i don't believe that where you live, what you drive, where you shop and what you do for a living are fully indicative of who you are. rich, poor, gay, straight, cool, uncool, male, female, conservative, liberal, etc... you're a good person or you're not. that's all that matters. i'm really a lot nicer than this makes me sound. trust me! ;)
Fuck art. Let's dance.

My Interests

"It's already been sung but it can't be said enough, all you need is love..."

I'd like to meet:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~i'm open to anyone and everyone. i still have the "breathing and vocabulary of five words" criteria...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Music:
the Beatles, Jon Spencer, Sleater-Kinney, the Decemberists, the White Stripes, the Clash, PJ Harvey, the Damned, Patti Smith, the Strokes, Neil Young, My Morning Jacket, the Flaming Lips, T. Rex, the Stones, Jane's Addiction, the Velvet Underground, U2, Elliot Smith, the National, Beck, the Stooges, Rogue Wave, the Who, Jeff Buckley, Arcade Fire, the Walkmen, Wolf Parade, Spoon, Fugazi, the Shins, Cat Power, New Pornographers, and whatever else amuses me this week. I'm fascinated by Antony and the Johnsons, and I still love Pearl Jam
Television:
If I had cable, my answer would be different. And I'd probably never leave the house. And be paler than I am now... But God bless Arrested Development!
Books:
The Bell Jar, Like Water for Chocolate, Orlando, On the Road, the Stranger, Love in the Time of Cholera, Geek Love, the Moviegoer, Letters to a Young Poet, Siddhartha, Franny and Zooey, the Beatles Anthology, any Margaret Atwood, David Sedaris, lots of non-fiction that's feminist and politically slanted...
Heroes:
The women in my life. Mom, Barbara, Shelley, Suzie, Becky, Mina... all have been through some seriously hard times yet never gave up, kept up brave faces for the kids (and i'm sorry it took us some growing up to appreciate how complicated that is!), kept takng hits, and always made it. My sisters are all younger than me but i swear they're infinitely wiser. While I meet my crises curled in a fetal position listening to "Here Comes the Sun", they're the true fighters... And for all those known and unknown who've stood up for what they believe in, I bow to you!
My Blog
it's insulting...
... and not only to me! So you're a straight girl and you think Angelina Jolie is hot. You and everybody else. That doesn't make you bi, but have fun at the bars using that as a pick-up line. There ar...
