About Me

833 Records was founded in August of 2002, in Auckland, New Zealand by Mark Thomson - a freelance Hiphop journalist, and former DJ. Named after the area code to one of West Auckland's most notorious suburbs - Ranui - it was important to Mark to capture that raw, street fueled Hiphop vibe and present it to the people on a global scale.
Unhappy with the present corporatizing of Hiphop around the globe, 833 Records aims to make its mark internationally as a bastion for Hiphop in its purest form. Restoring Hiphop's good name as not only the one true artform of free expression in the world, but also a tool for change and ascention for people who have been stepped on and exploited by the 'powers that be' for much too long.
833 Records is independent. It is real Hiphop, and it is the future.
