About Me

When most of us were dreading piano lessons, in the 80's Alex Tobin was picking out his favorite tunes from the radio after school. Years later a post-college restlessness and music teaching stint inspired the Bostonian to write poignant songs of perseverence, uncertainty and identity. In 2002 Alex recorded his debut EP at Eman Music Studios in Boston, with a follow-up session in 2004. Mixing jazz chords and thought-provoking lyrics, his music echo a love of Billy Joel, Ben Folds, Elton John, Counting Crows and Train-to name a few.Over the next two years Alex played small clubs in and around Boston like Club Passim, Sky Bar, Kendall Cafe, Ryles, The Asgard, The Burren, and Kirkland Cafe. 2006 brought Alex to the Windy City to work with nonprofits and find a new audience for his songs. He has played troubadour Chicago stages like Silvie's, Uncommon Ground, Lilly's, and the legendary Elbo Room.Newly engaged - Alex is putting off his next recording project to write more songs, before returning to the studio sometime in 2009. From New England to the Second City, he continues to hone his skills at open mikes and small clubs making his mark as a storyteller at the piano-one song at a time.
