About Me

Greetings myspace electronic telegraph page user! Welcome to my humble corner of this zany series of interconnected pipes and tubes they call "internet". Make yourself at home. Pull up a seat and set a spell, or feel free to rifle through the latest hot jazz numbers in my record collection. I'm sure you'll find me quite the dapper old chap. In fact, you may find me so corking, that you may wish to meet up for spirituous beverages, or perhaps to attend a box social! Why, I've even got a couple nickels in my pocket which would garner us both admittance to the local cinema. Let me wind up my car and we'll catch the latest talkie!~~~~~~~
T'is hard to believe more than two years have passed since leaving my surroundings in the western part of the state to set up homestead in the Raleigh area. Due to the lack of career advancement in the more rural area where I lived, I thought it necessary to venture forth to a place where there were more opportunities for someone of my technical inclination.I was immediately impressed with Raleigh, what with all it's indoor plumbing, incandescent lamps, talking picture shows and fancy motorcars and such. Several fortnights ago, I accepted a position as Director of IT for a local health care organization. We work in the anesthesia field, which is a fancy way of saying that we put people to sleep. T'is our hope that the patient's slumber is only temporary, while the skilled medical do-gooders attempt to repair any ailments.
My most recent news has involved the purchase of a home, which I did in November. I happened upon an ad on the Craiglist website, advertising a retro-modern styled home, freshly renovated inside and out, and only 2 miles from my office! I think the first 10 words exchanged between my realtor and I upon the first look inside were all simply "WOW". It was such a sight for sore eyes. SO many of the homes I'd looked at were dull, plain, "cookie-cutters" in big flat neighborhoods with no trees or privacy. This house was exactly the opposite. Surrounded by shade trees, at the end of a quiet sleepy cul-de-sac, a very retro A-frame sort of shape. I shall take it upon myself to attempt writing some blog entries about the experience and my adventures. The most recent additions have involved the purchase of a couple new toys, one being a lovely flat-panel High Definition talking picture box, and the other being a lovely Brunswick billiards table. The house is quickly becoming the place-to-be for all the local gents and lasses!
I set up this profile as a way to keep in touch with my associates and wellwishers, whilst being comical at the same time. Several people have inquired of me whether or not I speak in this manner in real life. The answer is of course no. Now, I don't claim to be normal by any stretch of the imagination, but the "LeRoy" speak is simply a comical gimmick which I conjured up one evening while enjoying a tasty stiff drink. I must say, I never could have imagined the reaction it would elicit from my fellow myspace acquaintances. It seemed that interesting individuals came from the woodwork in hopes of being added to my growing list of associates.
Please accept my utmost thanks for taking a few minutes to read a bit about me. If anyone should have any questions, you need only to ask.
Yours,
~Leroy
In this section, I feature examples of my audio restoration work. I pull random phonograph records from my ever-growing collection and then set about improving the sound quality by implementing a computational unit, which removes the hiss crackle and pops.
The current samples are linked below for your downloading enjoyment. They have all been fully restored from vintage 78RPM records by yours truly.
Mezz Mezzrow - Comin' On with the Come On
Luis Russell - Feelin' the Spirit
Richard Tauber - Die Entfuhurung - Konstanze
Lionel Hampton - Ring 'Dem Bells
I shall post more of these examples, time permitting. You may also like these streaming radio programs made by the late Robert Parker. He was the person who inspired me in the restoration of vintage recordings. You can listen to his programs here: Robert Parker Radio
Enjoy!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

What follows are some musical performances that I have enjoyed listening to, courtesy of our friends over at YouTube.

First up is an old one, but a good one. The Original Dixieland Jazz Band playin' "Jazz Me Blues". The ODJB certainly didn't invent Jazz, but they were definitely one of the first groups to record it for future generations to enjoy!

Up next is a late 1920's recording from the Jones-Collins Astoria Hot Eight, entitled "Astoria Strut".

And last but not least, I'm putting up a song by one of my favorite "modern" groups. It's the French group "Air", and the song is from their 1998 "Moon Safari" album. It's "La Femme D'argent" and even though the video has no relation to the audio, it's still a very enjoyable track. Always makes me want to sit back and relax with a nice drink.
