Orava String Quartet

Orava String Quartet, based in Sydney Australia, was founded in 2007 by a family of three siblings violinist’s Daniel and Sylwia and cellist Karol Kowalik and joined by violist Thomas Chawner. ............................................................ ............................................................ ...........................Since it’s formation, the quartet has been seen in regular performances around Sydney and have already performed in some of Sydney’s most respected venues such as the City Recital Hall and performed for Musica Viva Australia which included a collaboration with world renowned didgeridoo and composer William Barton in regional Australia. Orava has also performed internationally in Canada at the Banff Summer Arts Festival, Shanghai, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates and will perform in Rome in 2009. They have been featured on 2MBS FM Rising Stars on Air program and recently won 1st prize at National Chamber Competition held in Canberra. ............................................................ ............................................................ ...........................In 2008, Orava String Quartet received a scholarship as one of five string quartet's into the prestigious Banff Chamber Music Residency in Canada where they spent the summer of June 2008 performing, recording and receiving lessons from the world class faculty at Banff. After their return, they performed at the Crossroads Festival as well as Musica Viva Festival as part of the AYO Chamber Music Camp. ............................................................ ............................................................ ..........................Orava String Quartet has participated in Master Classes and studied with members from Emerson String Quartet, St Lawrence String Quartet, Schoenberg String Quartet, Artemis String Quartet, Brentano String Quartet, Orford String Quartet and Grainger String Quartet.
