MARK & TRACEY

Hey, I don't have all the answers, but I love my wife. I love my life and I wish you my kind of succ

About Me

Mark and I met at Cal State Fullerton, when I interviewed for a job in our Student Union. He, at the time, was working a summer camp program, of course, and I got hired as the coordinator for the billiards section of the recreation area. He literally walked right through my interview and when I saw him smiling at me, I KNEW he was special. It took us a few months to get together, but when we did, that was it. We've been married over six years--July 27th--and our background image is for our honeymoon, which we took in London. We visited Stonehenge and it was such an awesome, powerful sight. I'll always remember it. We have lived in Arizona since July of 2004. We're originally from Southern California, where our families still live. From my perspective, my wife is the amazing, wonderful, fantastic one and I am lucky to have her in my life. Each day is a new journey with amazing things in it and I feel so joyful that I get to experience it with someone so special, who raises who I am just by being with me.

We both work in Buckeye, AZ, teaching 5th grade and PE (T & M). Mark is going to school to finish his teaching certificate completed for PE.We have some amazing friends in our lives--how lucky are we?! I've been friends with Justina since the 6th grade, when she literally grabbed my hand as I walked by her desk and pulled me down into the empty seat next to her. She was my maid of honor at our wedding and we've been through lots of ups and downs together. She's one of a kind and I love her dearly. Cliff and Bryan were initially my brother Ryan's friends, but they've weaseled their way into our hearts and now, they're stuck! Mike is Mark's BFF--they talk sports, life, and everything in between--he's a great guy. (Although even I'll admit sometimes we get a bit sidetracked when it comes to fantasy sports...but honestly who hasn't spent a whole day with someone surfing the web and talking trades and stuff??? Oh wait, that is just us and a select few. :-)) Rob is my hip, metro friend, who has more style than I'll ever have. He is sensitive, yet he does NOT take crap. He listens and offers advice one minute, then turns around and totally kicks some butt the next. He's priceless. Julie is my partner in crime! We work together and are pretty much attached at the hip most of the time (unless we're fighting like a married couple!) I say I have a husband and a wife.

Family is most important--and we have quite a family! We laugh, cry, fight, play, eat and BE together as much as possible--which these days, isn't a lot. The times we spend with our family are the best times. My mom is one of my best friends. There aren't really words to describe how important and valuable she is in my life. She just is. My dad has taught me countless life lessons, like the essentials of cribbage and classic b&w movies, how to mix a decent gin and tonic and what really matters in life: "you can either accept it or you can't." When in doubt, ask Daddy. My brother Ryan is one of the few people who really knows me, the good, bad and ugly. I can be stupid and immature with him and I can also completely confide in him with my deepest feelings. He is one of the smartest people I know and I couldn't be prouder of the person he is, aside from his occasional idiotic tendencies. My brothers, Scott and Greg, are hilarious, and heartfelt. My aunt Shirley is wacky and silly, yet extremely knowledgeable and capable. Mark and I are a brand new uncle and aunt. Our sister in law, Kelly (married to Greg) gave birth to two BEAUTIFUL babies on July 2nd. Johnathan and Jennifer Vaughn are about as perfect as can be. We miss them, only getting to see them once in awhile. Our other sister in law, Rebecca (married to Scott) brought our other nephew into the world on August 7th. Reagan John Stephen Vaughn is just as beautiful...hey, he's a Vaughn! We haven't met him yet, but are looking forward to going to DC this March! Along with many other significant people, I am so proud and grateful I got to be in this family. As far as my family, where to start. :-) First let me say that on both sides of the family, up and down the entire family tree I love them all! Even though there may be differences of opinions or arguments, there isn't ever a doubt where the feelings lie, and I don't think many families can say that. Even though I haven't always understood or agreed with my parents' decisions for me or about me I appreciate what they have done for Tracey and me as well as Russell and Keith, and I feel like they have done a tremendous job raising three good men and I love them. I am proud to call Russell and Keith my brothers and if there's anything they need, I will be glad to do all I can for them and more. I hope they are happy and are enjoying life and end up with everything they want! On that note, we're still waiting for both of them to get their butts out here to Arizona to visit us, what the heck?!?!? :-) My Vaughn parents have always treated me as a true Vaughn son. I cannot possibly say how much that acceptance has meant and I love and thank them from the bottom of my heart! I am so fortunate to have even more love and siblings in my life, with Scott and Rebecca, and Greg and Kelly. I can't wait to get millions of pictures of our two nephews and a niece, who were all born this summer. My brother in law, Ryan, what can I say about him, except as important as he is to Tracey (which is just about immeasurable) he is the same to me. All I know is the Big Berthas better not cause him to kick my butt in golf! All of my aunts, uncles and cousins on all four sides of my family have shown me such love and a little bit of each one of them shows up in me and I appreciate that very much.

My Interests

Mark: GOLF, sports in general, both real and fantasy, poker. I'm kind of a dork. I also love cooking, traveling, coaching about 900 different sports and hanging out with my wife. Tracey: Being with Mark, reading, watching movies, shopping, ebaying, gardening, beading, cooking, scrapbooking, knitting, and of course spending endless hours in my classroom always preparing for tomorrow. Julie and I are team teaching this year. My emphasis is math, so I focus on that with my kids in my class and then "coach" new teachers on getting organized in their classrooms. I'm also the PTA vice president for our school, and have worked my butt off all year long! Our other major interest is our boys. Seymour (orange tabby) and Stanley (black and white) are our babies. Seymour is 2 and a half and Stanley is 1 and a half. Mark's nickname for Seymour is "Mizzle" or "Miz" and we call Stanley "Stan Man" and "Stan Boy." We now have a third addition to our little family. We adopted a third kitty named George. He's a tan and white tabby and is driving us absolutely NUTS. The three boys play and despite the occassional hiss here and there, they get along just fine.

I'd like to meet:

In March 2007, Mark was injured in Palm Springs, CA. He sustained multiple head fractures and had a grapefruit sized blood clot in his brain. He was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center and was immediately rushed into the operating room to remove the clot. His surgeons performed a miracle surgery to save his life. He was in ICU less than twenty-four hours and we left the hospital six days later. His surgeons told our family that he is a very strong person and his recovery was amazing and miraculous. We came home to open arms, lots of well wishes and the endless support of our family, friends and colleagues. It's now almost a year later and Mark has completely recovered...in fact, he's been completely recovered for a long time already! Mark's surgery, tests and hospitalization cost a whopping $175,000!! Good thing we didn't have to pay for it--(THANK YOU, insurance!) Thank you to everyone for your support and kindness--it meant so much! Here's to our health--it's the most important thing we have!

Music:

TONS, including Country and 80s rock. Mark is a closet Justin Timberlake and Usher fan...along with his entire list of "Mark's angry rap music" on his iPod.

Movies:

Mark's Favorites: "Hoosiers" and "The Sandlot". Though, any sports related movie will do! Tracey: My all time favorite movie is "It's a Wonderful Life"--my parents taught me right.

Television:

ESPN....so I can catch up on my....baseball, basketball, football, golf, tennis, soccer, boxing, horse racing, what did I miss....?!? Tracey and I love HEROES (Nissan Versa!) and have gotten into the latest edition of American Gladiators. We also watch American Idol, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, MythBusters, Food Network and GSN.

Books:

This school year we read the Spiderwick Chronicles to our kids and will take them to the movie coming out in February! I'll also, of course, read The Phantom Tollbooth to my kids at school--my favorite book of all time!

Heroes:

Grandpa Otsuji, Eldon and Joan Vaughn, Ryan Reed Vaughn and Mike for his fantasy sports skills! Mark and I teach. I teach 5th grade and Mark teaches P.E. We spend countless hours everyday, every week with our kids and I have learned far more from these experiences than any college class could have taught me. They make me proud and drive me crazy, but at the end of day, there's NOTHING I'd rather be doing. As they enter and exit my classroom, they'll always remain with me. The school year has flown by...we're over half way through and will celebrate our 100th day on January 24th!
